A Sweet Break from Busy Life

After staying for months at the coffee farm, I finally could take a break. so I travelled on the bus to Mangalore. I reached my aunts house and took a little bit of rest. Within a few hours, my cousin came home She said let’s go outside. And I was also looking for a reason to go out. The first thought that came to my mind was to go try pastries.

But before that, we stopped for a mocktail with Lychee and mix of other ingredients.🍸 I loved how it is a beautiful, mocktail glass with a lime. 🍋‍🟩

Then we decided to go and try out some pastries. She told me about this new place that opened a few months ago. When I heard the name, I knew which place she was talking about. But I had no clue that they had opened a new shop in another location. Since it is new and popular, I decided to just go and visit.

Bonbons is a desert shop known for its exquisite confections. The perfect spot to treat your friends and cousins. The ice cream cake was something I always had here since ages. It has been at least a minimum of 10 years since I last tried the same cake. 🍰

This is my cousin, Leeann. She’s currently studying for her engineering degree. she kept telling me how much work and assignments she has to do and that I came right on time when she got a good break of three days.

We were craving for something sweet 🍬 and chocolate at home would not satisfy.😌

So we came all the way to Bejai, to grab two slices of cakes. She felt like trying the Black Forest Cake. I am always intrigued by the first person who decided that they should be a cherry on top of the cake. Either way no matter whose cake it is. I always steal the cherry. 🤣 Just as I did here too.

Now here’s what I had:

Ice cream cake - ₹75 ($ 0.89)

She had the Black Forest Pastry - ₹60 ($ 0.71)

The best way I can describe this cake, is the topping was loaded with rich crunchy cashew nut bits. A dense amount of chocolate was loaded on these cashews. on the bottom, part of the topping was the rich layers of really moist sponge cake made of cocoa. The alternating layer was a block of ice cream. The flavour of the ice cream was vanilla which complimented perfectly with the decadent chocolate, and of course enhanced by the nutty profile.

As you can see, we kept having a bite of each other’s pastries. and comparing the taste with the price. Honestly, speaking the price is quite reasonable. She told me that she had tried the same ice cream cake a while back, maybe a few months down the line, which was much better than what we had now.

Meh, either way, I enjoyed this sweetness and cold ice cream being smudge together with moist spongy layers. It’s crazy, how this combination just works so well together.

No coffee or cake date is over without candid pictures. 📸 not just of ours, but also the different cakes that were in the shop counter. I wish I clicked more pictures to show you other cakes, but I’m so busy looking at the ones we were trying to order.

I would say the main drawback of this pastry shop was that it did not have any drinks. Just tiny bottles of juices that didn’t even look appealing. I was really irritated that I was dehydrated by the end of the meet.

I almost ran to get a drink to quench my thirst. But it was getting late and dark outside. Did not want my aunt to feel that I came home late, so we just left home.
