Purchasing and Preparing Veggies Seed/Seedlings for planting.

Hello Hive

Happy new week to our dearest community and passionate homesteaders. Hope that we all had a wonderful Easter celebration. I didn't get to eat chicken eventually 😂, as the price of a whole chicken is sold for at least $10 and above. Even a half kilo of already dressed chicken is sold for as high as $3. There is a bit of more pressing financial need on the ground, and chicken can't be a part of our budget yet 😆.

This is one of the reasons i am determined to go into poultry rearing so by that we can equally have as much eggs and meat since we are lucky bto grow the food we eat. Moreover raising birds wouldn't be as hard as farming from what i have. seen so far..

Sundays are majorly resting days for us, as we do not go to the farm unless it is very necessary to check on our growing crops against animal encroachment. Similarly, we were home all day today for the Easter celebration, and having had lunch, I remembered that I needed to source some veggie seeds for planting.

Since the rains have commenced, it is a good time to grow some veggies right at my doorstep. Aside from the ones we often grow by the riverbank using irrigation farming, I love to have some green leaves right at my doorstep. The little compound space here has been very useful for me and my neighbors. Most people on the premises often benefit from the veggies I grow. Fluted pumpkins, scent leaves , bitter leaves, jute mallow, spinach , tomatoes, and peppers. These are mostly some of the things I grew within the compound. The dryness here was so excessive toward the end of last year that nothing survived it.

Even the fluted pumpkins that were perennial veggies also withered away because of the extreme hot temperature.

I have been in search of veggie seeds for a while now since the rains began. The agricultural store here hasn't been able to restock new seeds, and I have no choice but to visit our local store.

Luckily for me, I found this new store that opened on a Sunday, as the seller is a Muslim. She sells varieties of seeds/seedlings.

In the store I found new veggies that I wasn't familiar with and was surprised to get introduced to new veggies.

Since it is often difficult to grow some veggies from the seedling stage, some of our experienced seed sellers often pre-grow the seeds before selling them to us.

I got the needed vegetable seeds wrapped in papers to keep them viable. Not everyone is experienced in keeping vegetable seeds. This seller wraps hers in paper, which is better than wrapping them in nylon. Paper wraps keep seeds viable.

I got only the needed and familiar veggies. Meanwhile, I will still be back here to explore, as I appreciate any adventure in agriculture and would be delighted to grow some new species of veggies and try eating them if they would be useful.
