THE CLASH

Theme:LONDON CALLING.
Disc:THE CLASH.
Year:1979.

“London Calling” proved that The Clash were much more than a punk band that had come to burn quickly after releasing their particular string of criticisms and social vomit. Few groups of their generation would have dared with a double album of ambitious musical heterogeneity as they did, demonstrating that they were a rock n' roll band with capital letters built to last.

THE CLASH

Only they could call to order after having been part of the punk uproar and go from throwing stones behind a trench with a guitar to try to stabilize the achievements of the revolution with a head. That is what they did in the song that opened and at the same time gave name to the album.

The song's structure was almost hypnotic in its circular character and its repetitive reggae-influenced guitar tempo over which ideologue Joe Strummer recited his heart-in-hand speech with integrity, resorting to the title track without it constituting a refrain at all.

Cover Single

A manifesto that made sense and brought out in a positive way the most notorious of the violent and destructive punk explosion and that served as inspiration for the new wave and pop-rock that would come later. Of course, after “London Calling” the Clash didn't need to claim more of their worth or ask to be heard, as they were already among the greats of rock n' roll in their own right.

My people thank you for reading this blog, and I hope you like this report about this band which is iconic and very legendary. I invite you to listen to the song and I hope you like it. A thousand blessings and see you in a new post of legendary rock songs.

Such a great song, I think after Rock the Casbah this is my favorite from them. By the way, did you know that a guy was once arrested at Heathrow airport for singing London Calling? That’s the world we’re living in.
