Greetings!
Like the popular bible saying, " there's time and season for everything on earth." With this scripture verse, it's a know fact that there's time and season for everything on this planet earth. Though, to some, this can limited to human and human activities on planet earth, but to me, its beyond human alone, but to everything God created, including those innovations created by the humans God created. This is because, God says, " all he created are wonderfully made." Its the human he created that made the innovations. So, God is the master creator. He gave this innovations to human accordingly.
Talking,dissecting and seeing this week hivenaija prompt, took me down memory lane. It made made me realize that nothing last long and that indeed there's time and season for everything. Seriously in the tech world, alot has come and gone, but human still exist. Well, this can be seen as the needed transition from one developmental level to the other. Which means what is being said about the earth is real, the saying about the earth rotating on it's own is quite real. Like I said earlier, series of tech apps or gadgets including media app has come and gone.
One of those apps that has come and gone, most especially in this part of the world is the 2go chatting app. Though, It might not have gone into extinction completely, but in Nigeria, the emergence of chatting app, such as WhatsApp, facebook messenger and telegram has really waned down the popularity of the 2go chatting app.
Lunched into operation around 2007 and 2008, if I maybe correct, the 2go chatting app was one of the most used chatting app in the country with millions of people subscribing to the used of the app. The most fascinating thing about 2go was it ability to be used on java, android and the BlackBerry gadgets which really made it available for all.
Also, another feature of the app back then was it level. This 2go app comes with level, which means whenever you start using the app, you start from novice and graduated to sapphire, sapphire to ruby, ruby to master to professional, leader and the ultimate. There are other level I could not remember. These level are marked with stars and this also brings about the joy of using the 2go app.
In those days, while growing up, making use of the 2go app makes one a big boy or girl in town. This means you not using 2go means you are going no where, guys then used 2go to woo ladies, they used this platform to show how exposed they were, 2go app is used by ladies also, just to show they were in vogue.
This was the trend of the past.
Its features were what endeared people, most especially the young folks to the app in those days, most especially in this part of the world where such features have not been seen or experienced before. Its features such as instant messaging, file sharing and social networking really drew people to it since such features have never been experienced prior to the advent of the app.
So, suddenly, this app became to waned just because of the advent of another social media platform or app. So, its waning out was due to competition from other social networks, also, technical issues and security concerns led to the partial if not total extinction of the media platform in this part of the world. I could remember, the first day a friend to one of my friend, sodiq, showed him his WhatsApp and its mode of operation. That day, I was opportuned to be there and all of us were like this is interesting. Immediately we saw the WhatsApp, we all knew the 2go app is going down the drain.
Though, like I was told, the app is still available for downloading, but I don't think people are still interested in making use of the app as of before. My only advice to the owner of the app is to step up and do the needful to meet up with the standard of what is in vogue now, as I still believe there's loyal users of the app around the continent of Africa and beyond.
