Desde un tiempo para acá he estado pensando en contar los momentos de convulsión social vividos, sea en Venezuela o en cualquier parte del mundo, y ya que me da curiosidad saber que ha vivido cada quien la mejor idea que me vino a la mente fue hacerla iniciativa. Al final del post explicaré las regulaciones para participar en la misma. Espero al disfruten.

Puede que el título suene raro e irrelevante, pero no consigo otra oración que defina mejor mi recuerdo, ya que es lo que más frecuentemente vi y lo que mejor resumía la situación. La razón de esto se remonta a los años 2014 y 2015, muchos saben que estos años fueron los de mayor conflictividad sociopolítica de lo que va del siglo XXI, sobre todo el año 2014, donde diariamente yo esperaba para ver las noticias y saber que nueva información sensacionalista habría de llegar.

The reason for this goes back to the years 2014 and 2015, many know that these years were the most conflictive socio-political years so far in the 21st century, especially the year 2014, where daily I waited to watch the news and know what new sensationalist information would be coming.
La historia de la parte económica del la realidad venezolana para esa época no era distinta. La inflación ya estaba empezando a hacer estragos en los precios y ocurría algo interesante: los alimentos de la cesta básica no se veían y la mayoría de los productos venían en una presentación super grande (una paquete de almidón de maíz o maicena, solo se veía en su presentación de 2,5 kg y no era algo fundamental en la cocina).

¿Qué representó esto?, la respuesta es sencilla:
La mayoría de los productos escaseaban por lo que la comida a precio más accesible que se tenía era el pan, es decir, era su ÚNICA comida.
La magnitud de este hecho afectó de tal manera a la población que solo los de mucha influencia político-económica podían mitigar.
Las colas que se formaban eran de al rededor de 200 personas (para la capacidad de la panadería local eso era un absurdo).
Debías hacer cola unas 3 o 4 horas antes del despacho de los panes, y después rezar por que no se acabara antes de tu llegada.
What did this represent, the answer is simple:
- Most of the products were scarce, so the most affordable food available was bread, that is, it was their ONLY food.
- The magnitude of this fact affected the population in such a way that only those with a lot of political and economic influence could mitigate.
- The queues that formed were around 200 people (for the capacity of the local bakery that was an absurdity).
- You had to wait in line 3 or 4 hours before the bread was dispatched, and then pray that it would not run out before you arrived.
Recuerdo perfectamente una tarde en la que mi papá nos reunió a todos en la cocina y dijo: "La cosa se va a poner apretada, más apretada de la que está", y vaya que no le faltó razón. En un momento había una imagen que definía bien la situación, tienes los ojos vendados, no sabes que tienes una soga al cuello y vas bajando a oscuras una escalera vieja que no sabes a donde conduce o cuanto desciende.
I remember perfectly well one afternoon when my dad gathered us all in the kitchen and said: "Things are going to get tight, tighter than they already are", and he was right. At one point there was an image that defined the situation well, you are blindfolded, you don't know you have a rope around your neck and you are going down an old staircase in the dark that you don't know where it leads to or how far down it goes.
En este momento que estoy echando una mirada a esos días, me doy cuenta que hemos aprendido un poco, y al haber tomado en cuenta el patrón USD para la regulación de los precios y como forma de ahorro se ha logrado frenar un poco la inflación. Aunque no lo parezca, yo siento que estamos un poco mejor que antes.
As I look back on those days, I realize that we have learned a little, and having taken into account the USD pattern for price regulation and as a way of saving, we have been able to curb inflation a little. Although it may not seem like it, I feel that we are a little better off than before.
