En esta oportunidad quiero compartirles una "reparación" que hice al equipo split de aire acondicionado que tengo en mi sala y lo escribo entre comillas precisamente porque cuando se habla de reparaciones de aires acondicionados pensamos: tengo que llamar al técnico y ¿cuánto me cobrará por eso?

La semana pasada traté de encender el aire acondicionado de mi sala y noté que solo estaba soplando sin enfriar el aire. Le dije a mi esposa @morepina que lo apagara y subí hasta el tercer piso para escuchar a ver si el compresor arrancaba, ya que el compresor está ubicado en la azotea y desde mi cuarto se puede oir el ruido que hace cuando arranca.

Le di la señal a mi esposa para que lo encendiera, esperé un rato y solo escuche que arancaba el ventilador. El compresor intentaba arrancar y se detenía.

Me armé con alicate y destornillador , le quité prestada la escalera a mi vecina y subí a quitar la claraboya, que es una especie de cúpula que hay en el baño para que entre la claridad y por ahí subí al techo.

Debo confesar que lo más difícil del trabajo fue sacar los tornillos que sujetaban la cúpula porque estaban apretados y no tenía un destornillador de estría. Así que conseguí un clavo grande y le aplasté la punta a martillazos para fabricar un pequeño destornillador y poder aflojar los tornillos.

Una vez arriba, procedí a quitar los tornillos de la tapa del compresor y luego el tornillo de la abrazadera que sujeta el capacitor.

I must confess that the hardest part of the job was removing the screws holding the dome because they were tight and I didn't have a slotted screwdriver. So I got a large nail and hammered the tip down to make a small screwdriver to loosen the screws.
Once on top, I proceeded to remove the screws on the compressor cover and then the clamp screw that holds the capacitor.

Saqué los cables del capacitor viejo y se los coloqué al nuevo y ya. Volví a colocar la abrazadera y la tapa. Bajé a encender el aire y ¡Aleluya!, el compresor arrancó sin problema.

I removed the wires from the old capacitor and attached them to the new one and that was it. I put the clamp and cap back on. I went downstairs to turn on the air and hallelujah, the compressor started without a problem.

Como les dije al principio, fue mas dificil subir hasta donde estaba el compresor que cambiar el capacitor. Cualquier persona puede hacerlo.

La moraleja de este cuento es que siempre hay que pensar en positivo y no tomar las cosas como sino tuviesen solución. Vale la pena intentar reparar uno mismo las cosas de la casa y así ahorrar unos dólares. Ese trabajo tan sencillo, solo por venir a mi casa y subir a la azotea me iban a cobrar 20 dólares como mínimo.

As I said at the beginning, it was harder to get up to the compressor than to change the capacitor. Anyone can do it.
The moral of this story is that you should always think positive and not take things as if they had no solution. It's worth trying to fix things around the house yourself and save a few dollars. That simple job, just to come to my house and go up to the roof, they were going to charge me at least 20 dollars.
