Only total love for God can enable us to come to love ourselves and others. Loving God implies a total surrender of soul, mind and heart.
34 Then the Pharisees, hearing that he had silenced the Sadducees, gathered together. 35 And one of them, an interpreter of the law, asked to tempt him, saying: 36 Teacher, what is the great commandment in the law? 37 Jesus said to him: You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is similar: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. 40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

The moral code that Jesus teaches the disciples and the religious is that you must love God first with all your heart, soul and mind.
If we love God with all our hearts, we know that we should not keep any impurity in our hearts, because God demands that we have a pure and holy heart, dedicated exclusively to Him.
If the heart is pure, then there must be no malice. This enables us to love ourselves and our neighbor with a sincere heart and without resentment.
If we love God with all our soul (intellect, emotions and will), it implies that our thoughts, emotions and actions are exclusive to God and there cannot be any kind of evil intention, because we strive to give God a reasonable worship that It includes all the elements of our soul.
Just as we love God with all our being, that same love of God enables us to also love the people around us.
Love them with sincerity, honesty and transparency; neutralizing all actions of hypocrisy.
Finally, if we follow the principles of the Lord Jesus based on love of God and neighbor, we will come to experience a love of high levels that will help us to be better people, Christians and children of God.
