Can we really stay happy in the midst of so much trouble? What is the key to maintaining joy in the midst of difficult times?

In the book of James, we find an expression from the author that says: "Bear in mind that it is a great joy when you find yourself in various trials" (James 1: 2-4). Another biblical expression says: "Rejoice always" (1 Thes. 5: 16-18).

However, there are situations in life that try to steal our joy, such as the economic crisis we are experiencing, the physical loss of a relative, divorce, financial problems, illness, etc. There are so many situations in life that can make us say, "I feel so bad, it seems like the world is upon us."

The psalmist David lived through many moments of storms of death, danger, betrayal and persecution, that it seemed that everything was ending, but with all these negative things, David discovered that only in the presence of God, was the key to keeping his life full of joy in the midst of adversity.

David, in the midst of conflicts and struggles, took his harp and said to God: "evening, morning and night I will praise you." The psalmist recognized that there was such abundant joy in God's presence that it gave him the strength to stand tall and trust that God would give him victory.

David recognized that the joy of the righteous was in Jehovah and was a reason to trust God completely.

How is it possible for someone to be happy despite suffering or having to lose important loved ones in life? The Bible responds, "The righteous will rejoice in the Lord" (Ps. 64:10).

It is time to leave our pain in Christ and He will turn our sadness into great joy.
