Hive Open Mic 117th Week - Kara Toprak (Black Earth) - Cover by @veliozdemiroglu

Almost all of us look for good and close friends throughout our lives. Sometimes we find it, sometimes we think we have it. Sometimes we are disappointed and sometimes we are very happy. On the one hand, we love, care, value; On the other hand, we are deceived, forgotten, ignored. There are times when we do bad things that are the opposite of what I just mentioned, because human beings are creatures with too many weaknesses.

However, some friendships are based on years of trust and increased trust over time. There are some that are destroyed in a very short time. Because trusting people is not easy. It is necessary to trust in order to survive, but I repeat, it is never easy. It takes great effort.

For the 117th week of Hive Open Mic, I prepared one of the most well-known works of Anatolian culture for you. Our work is a folk song and the name of this folk song is "black soil, my faithful friend". The lyricist and composer of the folk song is Aşık Veysel, a folk poet who lived in the 20th century.

The words begin like this:

  • "I have embraced many as friends, my faithful friend is black soil."

And it continues:

  • "I've been in vain, I'm tired. My faithful friend is black soil."

As you can see from these words, Aşık Veysel saw many people as friends, but he was wrong. Finally, he realized that the real friend is the soil itself. Because, in the continuation of the folk song, he tells that every effort put into the land gets a lot in return and that he trusts the land the most.

This is the natural result of a philosophy based on the past, as I have described it. People who realize the truth more trust themselves, the land, nature, etc. They also have trouble trusting another person, material, etc. I would like you to try to perceive this work from this perspective. In the source and notes section, I include the oldest recording of Aşık Veysel's own voice and all the words of the poem. Good listening everyone.

Lyrics;

*I hugged many as a friend
My faithful friend is black earth
I've been in vain, I'm tired
My faithful friend is black earth

I'm hooked on beautiful beauties
I saw neither loyalty nor benefit
All my desires I took from the ground
My faithful friend is black earth

The soil hides all our flaws
Stealing ointment and smoothing my wounds
He is watching my ways with open arms
My faithful friend is black earth

Whoever it is, has this secret
Leaves it to the world, an immortal work
One day he will embrace Veysel
My faithful friend is black earth

Herkese iyi dinlemeler.

Şarkı sözleri;

Dost dost diye nicesine sarıldım
Benim sâdık yarim kara topraktır
Beyhude dolandım boşa yoruldum
Benim sâdık yarim kara topraktır

Nice güzellere bağlandım kaldım
Ne bir vefa gördüm ne fayda buldum
Her türlü isteğim topraktan aldım
Benim sâdık yarim kara topraktır

Bütün kusurumuzu toprak gizliyor
Merhem çalıp yaralarımı düzlüyor
Kolunu açmış yollarımı gözlüyor
Benim sâdık yarim kara topraktır

Her kim ki olursa bu sırra mazhar
Dünyaya bırakır, ölmez bir eser
Gün gelir Veysel'i bağrına basar
Benim sâdık yarim kara topraktır

Thanks a lot @lk666 🙂

The earth a friend that most of us don't think of much. It gives us food and also holds the foundation for our shelters. Yet, we keep on "stomping" it.

Thank you for sharing this song to the community.
Love your performance. 🙂
