鬧區中的店家，競爭非常激烈，隨時都有經營不善的店家結束營業，也常常有國外新品牌進駐，某天和朋友約在信義區聚餐，這次朋友又找到一家，我們之前沒用過餐的新店家，找大家來嘗鮮，結果菜色的口味一般，但是價錢卻是偏高，還不如同棟大樓的平價義式餐廳薩莉亞，薩莉亞算是我及朋友在信義區找不到東西吃時的安全牌，說實話，薩莉亞的餐點談不上美味，但是非常平價，最便宜的商業午餐只要一百三十五元台幣，且不收服務費。
我們用完晚餐後，對於某些人來說，夜晚才剛開始而已，街上到處都是三三兩兩的上班族或學生，在各處街角，前陣子的聖誕裝飾還未完全拆除，而人們也沒了聖誕節時的那股勁，不會來擺拍美照，但是，路上很明顯的外籍遊客，還是對於有些夢幻的街景，異常興奮，疫情幾年下來，外籍遊客少了蠻多的，我想，當初的燈景裝飾搭建起來，可能也花了不少錢，讓它保留，作為城市造景的一環也是不錯。
有些國家有著立飲文化，立飲顧名思義就是站著飲酒，例如日本，不少日本上班族，為了想在回家的路上，快速的喝上一杯酒，來抒發自己一天繁重的壓力，於是出現了立飲酒吧，不虧是鬧區，在國外風行的立飲酒吧也出現在這裡了，不過，據我觀察，那些站著飲酒的客人，大多是打扮入時的年輕人，並不是中年大叔，可能是年輕族群就是喜歡特立獨群吧，而立飲酒吧剛好抓到他們的胃口。
我知道這一帶晚上十一點後，人反而會變多，因為位在地下室或高樓層的夜店，正式開始營業，鬧區的街頭巷尾，是高樓、購物中心與夜生活交錯的舞台，當中流竄的不管是上班族、觀光客、學生或街頭表演者，讓這座城市的心臟加速跳動，越晚越熱鬧、越夜越瘋狂，也讓這一帶有著不眠的美名，不過，那不關我們的事，我們已經邊聊邊逛了一圈鬧區，夜也深了，我只想快點回家，躲在暖呼呼的被窩裡。
In busy downtown areas, competition between businesses is intense—some shops go under all the time, while new international brands keep moving in. One day, my friends and I planned to meet up for dinner in Xinyi District. This time, my friend picked a new restaurant none of us had tried before, so we decided to check it out. But honestly? The food was just so-so, and the prices were way too high. We would’ve been better off eating at Saizeriya, the budget-friendly Italian place in the same building. Saizeriya has always been our safe choice whenever we can’t decide where to eat in Xinyi. To be real, their food isn’t anything amazing, but it’s super affordable—the cheapest lunch set is only 135 NTD, and there’s no service charge.
After dinner, for some people, the night was just getting started. The streets were filled with office workers and students hanging around in small groups. Around different street corners, the Christmas decorations from a while ago were still up, but people weren’t really paying attention anymore—no one was stopping to take aesthetic photos like they did during the holidays. But foreign tourists? They were all over it, still excited about the dreamy lights. With the pandemic cutting down international visitors over the past few years, it makes sense. The city probably spent a lot of money setting up those decorations, so keeping them up as part of the cityscape isn’t a bad idea.
Some countries have a standing bar culture—like in Japan, where a lot of office workers stop by standing bars for a quick drink on their way home to unwind after a long day. No surprise, these standing bars have made their way here too. But from what I’ve seen, most of the people drinking there aren’t middle-aged salarymen like in Japan—it’s mostly stylish young people. Maybe they just like being different, and these bars happen to fit their vibe.
I know that after 11 PM, this area actually gets even more crowded. That’s when the nightclubs, hidden in basements or high-rise buildings, start coming alive. The streets here are a mix of skyscrapers, shopping malls, and nightlife, packed with office workers, tourists, students, and even street performers. The city’s heartbeat speeds up—the later it gets, the livelier it becomes, and the crazier the night gets. That’s why this area has earned its reputation as the city that never sleeps.
But that has nothing to do with us. We had already wandered around the district, chatting as we walked. It was getting late, and honestly, all I wanted was to go home, crawl under my warm blanket, and call it a night.
