Compassion; More Than Just the Deed

Compassion is something that, most times, isn't merited; it just comes out of a good place from the heart. It's usually a strong desire to bring someone out or help alleviate their suffering. The thing is that these days, not so many people show compassion, especially around where I'm from, because there have been instances where people who were compassionate to others and rendered a helping hand ended up getting into trouble.

I believe, though, that no matter how wicked and toxic the world is today, there are still angels among us who are ready to help people unconditionally and I’ll be talking about one of them today.

I got a job in 2023 in a state different from my home state. It was a good offer, and I needed to move; I was at the point of my life where I couldn't rent an apartment for myself, so thinking of renting one was out of the question.

After I had thought so much about how I was going to go about the whole situation if I didn't get an apartment, I wouldn't be able to accept the job. At last minute, I thought of a lady who was a friend of my aunt, whom I knew while growing up, I remembered that she and her family had moved to that very city I was seeking accommodation, and I reached out to her reluctantly, I explained the situation to her and how I needed help and without much persuasion, she said I could come.

I was so glad, I got my things ready and moved to her house pending when I was able to rent an apartment.

On getting to her house, she made me feel welcome, she showed me to my room. I stayed there with her and her family for 9months, and not one day did she or her family make me feel like I didn't belong to their family. I went everywhere with them and celebrated every milestone with them. I was as free as a bird, I could do whatever I wanted.

You know how you go to some people’s houses and you have to work on eggshells? Being careful of what you do so as not to step on anyone's toes? But that was not the case for me, everyone was welcoming to me, including the children.

The fact she had a choice to decline or accept to accommodate me because as far as I was concerned, she wasn't under any obligation to accommodate me, but she did anyway, and I am very grateful for her compassion and hospitality towards me, I do not take it lightly, because I would have been stranded if she hasn't come to my rescue and not just stranded I might had even turned down the job offer.

Shout out to all those who go out of their way to show compassion and try to relieve people of their suffering in the midst of the evil happening in the world; you guys are the real MVPs; thank you for all you do. Thanks to Aunty Tekena for taking me in when I was almost stranded and for not making me feel like a stranger but rather like a member of her family; I am very grateful.

Thank you for stopping by, this is my response to the inLeo January prompt. You're most welcome to join in. For more information on this challenge, kindly check it out here
