The Healthcare Trap

Healthy people are harder for the healthcare industry to take advantage of. If you have a large population of people that literally depend on the healthcare industry for their survival the question of "how much money can I spend on treatment?" becomes "what dollar value to I put on my own life?". This puts you (or whoever negotiates the price for you) at a disadvantage. If there was less chronic illness healthy people have more bargaining power (less urgency, more time to shop for lower prices), driving healthcare provider prices down, with smaller and fewer claims, Insurance companies can lower premiums and are less likely to deny claims because there is less money being paid out. You can use whatever healthcare system you want, they would all buckle under the weight of American chronic illness. If you reduce chronic illness, the other issues of our current system are reduced in magnitude and there would be less corrupting incentives in the healthcare industry. Food companies saturate the Diet with addictive poison causing widespread chronic illness. I'm just guessing but I'd say more than half of the claims denied are for treatment of one or multiple of the resulting chronic illnesses. The problem is not that our healthcare system is expensive, unethical, or inefficient (though it is all of those things) The problem is the sheer volume of people that are dependent on that system due to chronic illness. There isn't a healthcare system that exists in theory or reality that could handle that seemingly ever-increasing demand.
