Duplicated ureter are seen exiting from each kidney and exitending to the bladder that has been opened. A small segment of aorta is seen betwen the normal, smooth-surfaced kidneys. A partitial of complete duplication of one or both ureter occurs in about 1 in 150 persons.
Incomplete ureteral duplication, in which one commond ureters enter the bladder is rarely cliniclaly significant. Altematively, complate ureteral duplication, in which two liraters ipsilaterally enter the bladder, has a propensity for vesicoureteral reflux, which is the retrogade flow of urine from the bladder into the ureter, which subsequently increases the riks of urinary tract infections.
As a reasult, there is a potantial for obstructive problems do to abnormal flow of urine and the entrance of two ureter into the bladder in close proximity, but most of the time this in an incidental finding (axcept to a urologist).
