Northern Areas of Pakistan
An Old fashioned Grain Grinding mill
(Run by Water from a local water channel)
It is most interesting to note that despite all the advancement in science and technology, in certain parts of the world, centuries old methodologies are still used, because it suits the local population and their life style. A grain grinding mill ,run by water from a local canal ,something that was probably introduced by The Arians, a long long time ago, is still considered the most economical and user friendly piece of equipment in most of the rural areas of northern Pakistan and KPK.
The basic mechanics are, flowing water which drives the stone grinders at a speed ,enabling them to grind any grain, such as wheat, corn ,rice or else, to a fine powder of edible quality .The grain is stored in containers above the grinders from where it is released in a constant flow .The whole process is reasonably quick and cheap, and affordable by the local population in terms of time as well as money.
