My SUPER TINY Coin Collection, LOL

in #gold7 years ago

I'm going to go through my coin collection to see how much it's worth!

Let's start with a 1929 Standing Liberty quarter dollar. Check it out:

In terms of silver, it's worth about $3. Talking numismatic value, it could be had for somewhere around $8.

Now for a Seated Liberty quarter:

This one does a little better. Silver content is the same, but it's worth $20+ in terms of numismatic value. IIRC I didn't pay much over spot YEARS AGO for these coins.

Let's look at some silver dollars next. How about a 1922 Peace Dollar?

It's slabbed and graded MS63. That means it's worth about $50 according to PCGS. They slabbed it; they should know eh? LOL.

BUT WAIT! There's more!!

Let's look at a 1884 Morgan dollar next:

This is a pretty nice coin. Its condition dictates its value. Let's say it's in "extremely fine" condition. That makes it worth about $40. Not bad! I paid way less!!

Now let's see an '09 Silver Eagle:

It's worth about $20.

Now for the best coin... a 1/10th oz. GOLD eagle:

Let's compare it with a dime:

That dime's worth all of $0.10. The gold coin it's standing next to is worth a whopping $132.60.

That brings the total silver/gold tally to... $270.

Not bad for random collecting/buying over the years. The only coin that hasn't surprised me by how much it's appreciated is the Standing Liberty quarter. And of course the silver bullion. Why is silver stuck at $15/oz? It's weird. It seems like it should be worth more than that.

How you enjoyed that. It was fun for me!!

Sort:

I'd love to start investing in Gold and Silver, but I've not got the funds right now.

For me it's a thing I can buy that's worth money, but I can't spend it easily. I actually carry a few silver coins with me when I travel for "emergency" purposes. Like if I get stuck in a jam with no money, my assumption is someone will take care of me in exchange for some silver. Never had to bank on that. Thank God. It's also just a funky store of value I keep in my sock drawer. I could put $100 bills in the drawer, but they're too easy to blow on booze. So I use silver and gold to save money at a premium, which is kinda dumb, but at least the coins are pretty.
