Ingi Dei in Suriname!

Ingi Dei in English means Indigenous Day.

August 9th is the day we celebrate the Indigenous people and Javanese Immigration. On this day, I enjoy the culture of the indigenous people a little extra. As a foodie, I've always loved the different food creations these people make.

As my roots are a mixture of the Ingi and Maron (near Cottica - Plantage Marseille), I've stated that I least need to learn how to prepare/make the one dish I am allowed to eat, that is prepared from cassava/yuka.

Now I'm here sharing my dish with you... cooked on Saturday evening, gobble on Sunday midday!

Preparation:
Pressure Cooked Pakira

Anjoemara marinated in salt and pepper

Kadekra (Cassava water) cooked until sweet

The finished product 😄
THE Pakira PepreWatra

The Anjoemara PepreWatra

As I said above... this was gobbled up!
The peprewatra has only 5 ingredients (for me!):

  1. Kadekra - cassava water
  2. Fish or meat - we usually use wild meat [pakira, pingo, bofru, wild boar] or anjoemara as fish.
  3. peppers! lots of them, or just 4 very very very hot ones.
  4. salt
  5. black pepper

I enjoyed my day at the pool that day! I hope my Surinamese friends and family did too, where ever they celebrated this day.

It's been way too long since I had pepre watra. I don't know why but I always eat it with kwie kwie.

oooh, that sounds delicious too! Let me know if you want some, and I'll cook it for yah. Mind you... I don't mind the pepper. It'll be a strong one. ;)
