Ice Scramble: Street food

in #food6 years ago

As little children, we all wanted to eat the foods sold in the street side, especially for me living in the province of the Philippines where various street foods like ice cream, cotton candy, fish ball, tempura, fries and the like are available. Oh, my taste buds are so reactive upon seeing, smelling or even just hearing the bell of ice cream vendor makes me ask my mother for some penny to buy.

Today, as I sat down with my wife after washing clothes, the ice scramble vendor get inside the plaza. A 15-year old boy with his father is riding a motorcycle with side car. They used it to easily transfer from one place to another in selling. I get five peso coin in my pocket and proceeded to their location. IMG_20180519_113535.jpg

They make ice scramble in a traditional way, but the taste is so good, it satisfied my taste buds. Ice scramble is made of shaved ice mixed with evaporated milk, sugar, topped with vanilla and powdered milk. It originated in 1970 in Manila, Philippines. With only five peso, my craving was satisfied. IMG_20180519_113628.jpg20180519_112554.jpg

I also cannot resist to ask the boy how long had he been helping his parents in making and selling ice scramble. According to him, he is only in grade 5 until now instead of Grade 10 because he always wanted to help. This kind of livelihood help them provide their basic needs, and help them send to school. Lucky he is that at a young age he knows how to work and earn, but I told him to continue schooling so that someday, he would become the manager of this business, or he can add more motorcycles and hire more vendors so he can earn more money.

I hope more children will realize that helping their parents, especially during their free time, is one of the best trait they could have.
I also want all the parents to know the value of education. They should send their children to school to have a brighter future.
Good luck to this young boy. I salute him.
Have a wonderful day steemians!
