FARMS - MONDAY

Pheasant

All pheasant species have strong sexual dimorphism, the male being larger and more colorful than the female. The males also have long posterior penalties, which resemble a tail. The females incubate the eggs and treat the young alone. A pheasant can live up to twenty years. In nature, it feeds on fruits, roots, insects, leaves, and vegetables. The pheasant becomes sexually mature to one or two years, depending on the species. In the Brazilian climatic conditions, it reproduces from September to December, reaching the maximum peak in October. In each position, the number of eggs varies from 15 to 30. The incubation period is from 22 to 27 days, varying the species.

FOOD The bird can receive a ration for chickens or quail, which can be purchased in stores of agricultural products. Daily, provide three meals, including fruits and vegetables, as a dietary supplement, avoid lettuce, which, because it contains a lot of water, can cause diarrhea in the bird.

Although it has been raised in captivity for a long time, the pheasant belongs to the group of animals that supply so-called game meats, with a differentiated palate and a higher price. White, light and tasty, poultry meat was for many years restricted to cardarpios from sophisticated restaurants and specialized butchers.

The status of the noble product is still maintained, but today it can be ordered in grills, indicating that, little by little, its consumption becomes popular.

Meat, however, is not the only commercial product that can be obtained in a creation of pheasants: exuberant coloring feathers, nutritious eggs of the species and even manure, used as agricultural fertilizer, are other potential income generators. The bird's eggs do not occupy much space on the table; however, with prices much higher than those of hens, they can compensate at the time of commercialization.

The plumage of the different varieties of the bird, of bright and contrasting colors, is of great interest for the ornamentation of farms and haciendas, as well as for parks and public gardens. There is also demand for feathers, used in the composition of fantasies and dressings, mainly for parades and dances in the Carnival period.
The creation of pheasant adapts well to small areas, such as nurseries in residential areas and patios. The necessary facilities are simple and can be made of rustic or existing materials on the property.
The puppies, in general, are born in chocadora or having chickens as you love, since the pheasants created in captivity are not good mothers

The bird is not demanding to feed or requires much veterinary care. Although it has easy handling, the pheasant goes through a delicate phase in the first months of life. When the puppy is aggressive and has a habit of cannibalism under stress. In adulthood, the bird is calmer, but it is good to keep only one male per nursery, so that there are no fights in the dispute for females.

WATCH OUT

Rustic and resistant, pheasant does not require much care. But, as has the habit of his car, the application of vermifuge is recommended twice a year. A dose can be administered in February before the change of feathers occurs, and another in July, before the laying season. The creator himself can dilute the medication in the water or mix it in the ration to give the animal. The vaccine schedule follows the same table as the hens.

THE REPRODUCTION
Mating can occur from the first or second year of life, depending on the variety, and centers from August to January. A few months before that period, leave one male per nursery to prevent fights between the breeding pairs. It is possible to identify the sexes from the third month of life.
