I finally did it. I ran out of bandwidth.
I did not think I would, and I was curious about what happens if I managed to get to 0% bandwidth. Good to know if you're new! Yesterday before I went out for the day I was trying to make a post but couldn't. I was also explaining a few features of the website to a friend including how upvoting works and I also could not upvote. This was a little embarrassing since I did not know what was going on, but I ignored it.
I couldn't for the life of me understand how I was so lagged that I couldn't upvote. I honestly thought Steemit was getting some kind of DDoS attack or perhaps my internet was about to give out.
I figured I'd just go about my day and post later in the night.
When I came back that night to make a post, it was like my Steemit world was crashing down. I went to upvote a post, and I could, but it was a lot less then what I'm used to.
How's my upvote worth a little less when I've let my power recharge? I went to my wallet page to observe and then I saw the dreaded 25. I could not believe what I was seeing and quickly went to Steemd to find out what happened.
Afterall, I assume I would need to get downvoted by a massive horde of people for my rep to go from 45 to 25 in no time! I was in a state of panic as I saw Steemd also list my reputation at 25 and was searching for a downvote somewhere. Nothing. What is it??? What have I done?!?!
Then I noticed a certain green bar missing from my Steemd page
Immediately relieved!
I read This Article by @alphacore and this thing is indeed a silent killer. So if you've been wondering where I went for the last day now you know.
While the article says I can't even convert to steem or power up with 0 bandwidth, I was still able to power up. I powered up a little in hopes that bandwidth would go up right away. This did not work, so I went to bed. Upon starting this post my bandwidth was at 80% and then 10 minutes later it was at 90% and now it's back up to 100%. I am not sure if powering up let me recharge faster.
I've been monitoring my bandwidth but never seen it go below 70%.
What's the recharge rate on bandwidth? When is bandwidth actually taken away?
It is my understanding that the more STEEM POWER you have, the more bandwidth you have.
I have a feeling that had I not Powered up I wouldn't be fully recharged yet but I am not sure and if anyone knows the answer let me know!
So if you're new and did not know this, now you do! Be sure to watch your bandwidth! It seemed to happen over night.
Thanks for reading and have a great day!
Update
After closer examination, I realized that I've also lost the 27 SP that had been delegated to me by @steem when I joined. I feel like a slightly bigger minnow now.
I could not post either yesterday because of this (and upvote, comment, etc..) and i actually just waited. It´s working now as you can see so i dont think, that you really have to do something to recharge.
That is good to know. That means powering up only gives you more bandwidth. Thanks!
