My Family journey from Visayas to Mindanao

in #family7 years ago (edited)

I was born in Hilongos, Leyte one of the province in Visayas Island in the Philippines. My mother from that province but my father from Balindong, Lanao del Sur former "Wato, Lanao del Sur" in Mindanao Island the second largest island in the Philippines next to Luzon. Sometimes Mindanao called them as "The Land of Promise". I'm half Meranao (Maranao) and half Visayan (Bisaya) because my mother is a Bisaya and my father is a Maranao.

My father and mother meet each other in Hilongos, Leyte when my father came to Hilongos for business with his siblings and relatives mostly his cousins. Our tribe Maranao is one of the Muslim Tribes in the Philippines like business so much. On that time there's no business of CD or DVD films not like on this past 10 years :) hehe. I'm sure this generation anywhere you want to go in the Phillipines, you will meet a Maranao businessmen. Me, my big sister and big brother was born in Hilongos. After a year or 2 years I was born, my Parents decided we go to Mindanao for our studies in the future and meet our relatives there. According to my parents, we stayed for the meantime in the Balindong (homeland of my father).

My parents rented an establishment to my father's uncle (brother of my grandmother) in inside of Mindanao State University main campus in Marawi City. My parents started a small grocery business inside in the MSU campus. After a years my parents bought the neighbor establishment (next to our previous establishment) because we are only renting to my late grandfather, and that time also one of my father's uncle will take our former establishment. Alhamdulillah for everything because even we got a small income everyday from family business, we survived!
