This post is a response to a request by one of the shop owners at Amarin Plaza’s art and craft market. Amarin Plaza is a medium size shopping mall opposite the luxurious Gasorn mall and next to the Grand Hyatt Erawan Hotel in central Bangkok. I like this spacious old architectural design of the eighties, when buildings took much longer time and attention to details than modern blocks of glass panels and prefabricated concrete blocks. The marble floor and brass handles or knobs could hardly be found in other malls. Many changes are taking place at this charming old fashion mall. The art and craft market on the third floor is going to close at the end of June.
The shop owners of these small shops had a hard time during two months lockdown and they all have to move out by June 30. So, they are offering at least 50% price reduction. As I was saying goodbye to some of the shop owners I know, one lady came up to request that I made a post for their moving sale. Some of these shop owners just told me that they had customers who came to them via my old posts on Amarin Plaza. Although this seems a bit late, I couldn’t refuse this request. They told me that customers would get more reduction by referring to my post.
After the lift up of our lockdown two weeks ago, several shop owners have started to move out of the mall. There are still some twenty shops there: the oil painting and old wooden furniture shop, the antiques shop, the silk souvenir and cloth, pottery and cutlery shops, a few crystal jewelry shops, Nepalese shop, a linen and cotton shirts shop and several Thai souvenirs stalls.
I was glad to hear that some shop owners could manage to secure a smaller space for their shops on the second floor of the mall. So,I would still have old friends to chat with whenever I visit the mall in the future. Life is getting really tough for ordinary working people and those without financial backing. Some shop owners see no hope in doing business in this ongoing situation; they have to cut their losses. I am starting to feel the squeeze and may have to make a drastic decision very soon. Everybody is affected by the financial and consequences of pandemic.
I hope to follow up on some old friends-shop owners later on to see how they are doing. The financial impact is truly serious for me as I am still waiting for a renewal of my contract. If the second wave of pandemic becomes a reality; things would drastically turn very disappointing for most people. Let’s pray that things will improve for most people.
Stay strong and healthy.
Cheers.
Beautiful pictures!
Thank you very much!
Have a nice day!
Beautiful potteries. I'll go check them out if I'm in Bangkok.
Happy weekend!
Thank you very much! The owner of this shop would be very happy; she’ll give you very good reduction!
Cheers.
This is heartbreaking. The devastation to peoples lives is something many people in some parts of the world don't understand. Here it's hidden by the government handouts, which I don't get, so many people like it. I really hope everyone suffering gets through this. Thai people have been through quite a bit over the years. They are strong in many ways.
I wish all the best for the sale at your friend's shop.
Yeah. I feel that this is only the beginning as the banking system has not imploded yet! But they surely will! It’s inevitable.
I hope my government and politicians are aware of what’s been cooking in this grand plan to change the world. Most people are victims or pawns who will suffer collateral damages. I do feel the pain for people I know and long lost relatives. They haven’t got a clue and are not at all prepared for this sudden change in the world at large.
I continue to pray for Divine grace to protect and help good and deserving people. Hope you could find a safe place to stay away from all the turmoils in the future.
Best of luck.
Yes indeed. Pray for Diving grace. Well said.
Yay!
