Anyone ever get so close to finishing a novel and then suddenly feels like it sucks😓

in #esteem6 years ago

Well, when I started out writing my novel series it was going to be a singe book. However, as I got into the heart of the work, it was growing too fast. The end result, in my opinion, would have been the scale of War and Peace. I figured that no teenager or young adult was going to pick up a book of that size. So, I went back, retooled it, and divided it into six books. With a little more work each book evolved into novels in their own right. In closing Tina, like others have already said, do not scrap the work, just keep working on it. Like Bob Ross says about his paintings, "We don't make mistakes, just happy accidents."

Oh yea. But... I just kept writing. While it gets shredded by my beta reader (unlike my editor who loves it) I’m still proud of it. It accumulated 1.7k reads before I took it down. Doesn’t say a lot, but it was enough considering it was only up for about 6 months and was finished about 3 months ago. Guess you never know unless you give it a shot.

Yes, but recent events (and a few people) tell me I'm wrong . I need to believe in myself - Erica Farner has been AWESOME! Any time I have a question she has answered it. If SHE and other people (including several agents and publishers) can take the time and trouble to help me then who am I to doubt myself. I think it's par for the course to doubt the book at some stage. I recently reread the first three chapters of one of my adult books and I HATED it ... until someone else pointed out that while there were some horrible sentence structures and repeated words there were some excellent descriptions. I'm slowly learning to have faith in myself thanks to Erica and a few others. My beta readers also enjoy the books so ...
