Hello Steemians...
At this time I want to discuss about the natural lighting in the building, for design of high-rise buildings, we need to know or learn the problems of natural light to the building that we want, so that the building can function as expected. In addition, the design of the building should also pay attention to the benefits of natural lighting for still be utilized.

Natural Lighting (The Sun)

The sun is the source of light or natural light are most easily obtained and many benefits. Therefore, it should be utilized as much as possible, especially in the tropics located on the equator. the sun emits light throughout the year with no difference of day and night. Unlike in the area of temperate regions, when the sun shines on more daylight than at night or vice versa.

Utilization of Sunlight

The sun besides giving heat (radiation) also gives light (rays). Given the sunlight during the daytime is that light useful for all life on land and in water. So sunlight is necessary, especially in lighting the building. The purpose utilization of sunlight as natural lighting in the building is as follows:

  • Save energy and operational cost of building
  • Creating a healthy space given sunlight contains ultraviolet providing psychological effects for humans and clarify the impression of space.
  • Using natural light as far as possible into the building, both as a source of direct and indirect lighting.

Utilization of the sunlight into the room can be done in various ways, seen from the direction of the fall sunshine and components or areas of fields that help incorporate and reflect whole solar light.

In general, the sunlight that falls to the ground level of the building can be expressed as follows:

  • Sunlight fell on the work field.
  • The reflection of sunlight on objects that are outside the home coming in through the window.

The amount of sun light reflection is very much influenced by the reflectance materials and colors whereas the intensity of sunlight coming into the room is influenced by several factors:

  • The type of material used is penetrated by light, for example of plain glass, colored glass and fiber glass.
  • The color of the material as an influential reflecting field is the color of the walls, sky and floor. The more young and bright color, the more reflective.
  • Area of openings or windows
  • Reduction in the intensity of light by grating (sunscreen) and trees.

Conclusion

The sun rotates from east to west. This affects the amount of light into the room facing east, west, north and south. In designing the building, especially high-rise buildings, the glass surface arranged facing the north or south to avoid solar heat radiation into the room. This radiation has a major effect on the artificial air conditioning system in the room.
