Fire and Rainbow Sprinkles

Whenever I remember my dreams I try to write them down. This one originally appeared on my tumblr page.

I was in the large first floor lobby of a skyscraper with a group of four or five people when we began to notice crowds leaving the building in an urgent but orderly fashion. No one was entering. One person even came up to tell us that there was a fire in the building and we needed to leave if we wanted to live. My group was very skeptic and stayed put. They chimed in one after the other. “If there was a fire, how come the alarm didn’t go off?” “Yeah, and how come we can’t smell it?” “Or see it!” In that moment, I felt myself travel, though not physically, to another location. I saw the fire. A heavyset woman who appeared to be Latina was in an industrial kitchen by herself. She was doing dishes, with her back to a stove, when a flame appeared from one of the burners. She turned around and panicked. I could feel everything she was feeling as she tried and failed to put out the flame as it grew taller and reached the ceiling. After failing to put it out, she looked around for things to throw at the flames, to make it bigger. She threw a large pile of empty toilet paper rolls at it but thought nothing of an escape plan. My mind returned to the scene of the lobby. It was completely empty except for my group. A fire truck appeared outside and only then did we decide to exit. There was a single window in the building that had been melted by the fire. Bystanders marveled that more damage had not been done. The Latina woman appeared among us, unharmed. There was a sensation surrounding the incident, as the firefighters found no cause or anyone on the floor at the estimated time of said fire. She came up to us and told us with an excited whisper, “It was me.” Several others soon appeared to tell the media that they too had been there, but every person who came forward was confronted by the original woman, who could then be seen throwing them into a metal tube filled with rainbow colored confectionery sprinkles.
