Back in the 80s, the judging for the dunk contest was based on execution rather than originality (kinda like gymnastics). In 1984, Orlando Woolridge merely got a 48 for the very first between-the-legs dunk in NBA All-Star history. Vince Carter changed that mindset, hence many competitors in recent years who can't come up w/ new aerial feats resort to using props for cheap pops.
