Technological unemployment is a threat to the middle class. This is the battle ground for both political parties. Basic income is usually thought of as a liberal subject but here a conservative makes the case why it is needed by that party.

Your two-party system has caused a mix-up of "left" and "liberal", while that're actually two very distinct philosophies. I think basic income is very popular with leftists, but not so much among liberals. And it's not at all popular along traditional conservatives or neoconservatives, but a lot more among conservative libertarians.
