Who was the first person to make you feel welcome on SteemIt?

in #discussion7 years ago (edited)

Do you remember the first person you met on SteemIt?

Who welcomed you? or answered your question or gave you encouragement?

I can't remember who if anyone greeted me on the first day, about somewhere around a week of wondering if my posts were even visible, I received a helpful comment from @gardenlady.  She was welcoming and friendly and even bold enough to provide some suggestions.  I don't remember what she said, just that someone said something!

I know for a while the scammer factor and the amount of Spam, made me almost suspicious of new users.   I never go to "New" anymore and I am unlikely to start going there again.

However, if I do see a question or a request I try to be friendly, and I engage with anyone who makes a reasonable comment on my post. By reasonable, I mean do I understand what they are saying, and does it sound like they read the post.   :)

I was reading some of the projects on the Trending page, and I noticed someone is launching some sort of Bitshares/Steem cross on Bitshares.  A quick glance at their marketing showed zero discussion of "Quality Content" and instead had a friendlier message of "Post what you want".

While I find it unlikely people are going to flock to Bitshares at this point, I was envious of a friendly message.

I don't mind that we don't rain money on the new-users, but I also think we could be more friendly and helpful.

What do you think?  Does the Steem Community come off as friendly or inviting?

@whatsup

His great attitude and informative posts made me invest into Steemit and learn quite a bit. I was truly amazed that such a big "whale" is keeping great contact with his community.
And the first post that had huge impact on me as a Steemian was one made by you where you talked about consistent posting. I still remember the quote "I just kept posting" :DThe first person who I had real conversations with was @crypto2crypto

Nice! I am glad you felt welcomed, and I am glad you enjoyed that post, it is one of my favorite posts.

I'm still "Just Posting". :)

Yea. Im really glad that you are still with us. Especially when so much shit is going on around
:P

Hey brother, I really appreciate the shout out. I have been super busy and this comment slipped through the cracks.

I'm glad I have had a positive impact on your outlook on steemit and I hope you continue to have success on your journey.

To be honest I had no idea that you would ever see that coment lol
I thought mentioning someone with @ doesn't give them answers notification. "The more you know" 😅😅
Thanks for another "bite" ;)

Fyrstikken ........long story but yup
the Viking
back then too was The Hulk but he poofed, but he was another

@fyrstikken! That first time I did a live stream with him! It was awesome. I had never talked to him prior and he ended up answering my request on the steemit.chat asking anyone to test my first ever Youtube live stream.

There are many other people. Many witnesses from the very early days, in June 2016, @liondani, @pfunk, @steempty and many others answering my numerous questions about Steem!

I'm very grateful!

Yeah, I think finding SteemSpeak and listening to the early conversations there, really helped my early days also! I think I enjoyed SteemSpeak more than the site for a while! :)

Yep... Fyrstikken and you @Battleaxe were the first two I met... Fyrst mistook me as a spammer and I got in voice on steemspeak to justify myself and well... things got a little out of control.. Good times idk if you'd remember that or not Battleaxe.. lol but you stood up for me and it made me feel a bit more welcomed... lol. You too @whatsup, always intrigued by what you have to say and your stance on the different debates that take place in voice... For as long as I can remember you have been a very welcoming figure in both the steemit and steemspeak community. Thanks for the post it really got me thinking!

I remember that time period and how "rough" SteemSpeak was at that time. lol.

Glad to see you are still here and hanging in there epicdesigns. Sometimes I think only the strong survive on Steem! :)

thanks for the shout out/kind words....yeah I remember and am glad you stuck around
b.a.

It was @pfunk. When I arrived, I asked in chat if there was a QT wallet for STEEM. He set me straight.

I think the community has its moments. There’s a great filter aspect, which may not be good. But it is what it is.

Yeah, actually I remember pfunk and Steemitiq from steemit.chat also. The welcoming committee. :) I will check out the great filter.

Lol!! What a perfect question for me because it was @whatsup. You weren't my first interaction but you proved to be the most impactful one. I'm not overstating this.

When I was at about my 80 day mark, with 400 followers (mostly bots or other newbies), with 800 posts and comments, I was still struggling because it seemed like very few people were seeing or reacting to me. And I WAS making an effort AND burning through my best images in the process. I knew I needed to change my approach.

Eventually, I decided this was being passive, I couldn't sit around waiting to be discovered. I needed to search out more active users to connect with, those with more power than I, and those who valued creating original content and those who supported the others around them. And, as a plus, with compatible viewpoints or interests.

And while it was me who found you through one of your posts, it was your response and appreciation that truly made me feel like I had found the way. A place beyond the trending or hot pages.

The ironic thing is, that your post was about your feeling slightly burdened by the daily act of supporting a network. :P And while that was probably true, it may also have been your topic du jour, which we also know can be a burden to find and create.

And whether my comment actually added something important to your thoughts, it certainly felt that way. And a post or two later you even transferred a full steem to me. Not an up-vote, a transfer!! This was 10x what I had earned from other posts or comments. I was slightly embarrassed by your generosity. I'm not sure of the edicate here, do I transfer back a tip with a comment? Do I pay it forward? I decided to thank you and be grateful.

These interactions changed my perspective of steemit and gave me new ideas to use going forward. Now I follow and read your posts and I continue learning new things in the process. And then when I find an opportune time, like now, I jump in and say something.

I know now, that finding the right people here, real people makes all the difference. For me that was you, and I thank you.

Awesome! I had no idea, I'm glad you mentioned it! :)

When I get low on voting power, I sometimes send tips or buy someone a vote. I'm glad it mattered.

You really do make a great comment! :) I've been getting better about making sure I follow great commenters also.

@geke curated me for OCD early on. @cobmaximus through the comics contest not long after that @gibber showed some pretty amazing appreciation for my songwriting through cover-a-steemian And then @paintingangels pulled me into Helpie and the rest was history.

Also I met a lot of people through reviewing their accounts for the Minnowbooster whitelist. Part of why I became a leader in that is because it was introducing me to so many accounts I wanted to follow. (And we have a nice little social group around that too.)

@newmarket65 was the first person I really remember giving me much support. Hopefully some day I can return the favor.

One thing I really loved when first comming onto Steemit is the sense of community and everyone was really supportive and helpful in answering questions.

By far though the biggest welcome wagon I got was from @brianphobos , I can honestly say if it weren't for him I wouldn't have lasted this long. Hehas always been very helpful to me in answering questions and has always been supportive helping me with upvotes and resteems and just has helped keep me motivated. I also love his no bullshit attitude, he's not a circle jerker its all good here, he's also willing to point out the flaws of this platform.

It's not just me either, when I look at other Steemians accounts and stuff I see him doing this for a lot of people, if we ever do some type of Steemit ambassador award for who does the most to spread the word and keep people active and engaged and happy onthis platform I would nominate him.

@bodyinbeta doesn't seem to be around here anymore but he also gave me a very warm welcome on here. My buddy @mitchyb joined around the same time or shortly after me but he's always been very supportive and engaged with me on here as well so big shout out to him. @tolkatore another awesome dude. @rawpride as well.

@reseller anohter awesome cat who's always been one to offer tips and suggestions on how I can grow and improve me and him have done a couple youtube livestreams and he's taught me a ton about this platform.

@robertandrew always very engaging and supportive love that dude as well and @Darrylnyk is a more recent Steemian but he's a great guy as well very supportive and engaging with me.

There's dozens more so for anyone else I've missed I'm sorry butall you guys are great

Great list and I am really glad to hear so many Steemians are out there helping. Kudos to you for giving so many credit!

@everittdmickey. He seemed like the only one interested in having converations and not just posting for rewards.

This reply surprised me a little, but I am very glad to hear it. He blocked me long ago. lol, I have no idea what I did. It was kind of sad, because I enjoyed his posts.

Ditto here also. No idea why but I don't lose sleep over it. We have so many wonderful folks here at Steemit that we can interact with.

Lol am kinda surprised too. He could be a bit grouchy, but he's pretty nice.

I've been trying to relate more with people who have the same or lower steem power than myself lately. I noticed that very few are interested in conversations. Everyone is trying to get the attention of Whales/Dolphins

Yeah, I've noticed that also. It can still happen from time to time, but for the most part, I think that train has left the station.

Welcome? Ha ha ha. I made too many wisecracks and found my rep at -8, kind of like @skeptic.

And you built it all the way back up from there?!

The short answer is yes. It's possible. @skeptic was in the dumps too, he also made a comeback. Now his rep is higher than mine.

It was a big Curie upvote on my fourth post, a guitar video I posted. When I looked at my blog that morning I couldn't believe it! Of course back then steem cost less than a quarter and the vote was only worth $20, but it still felt exciting.

Literally speaking when i first came to the Steemit Platform i was really unaware about the Introduction Post and at that time i was an YouTuber so just shared my video with Introduction Tag and only got 0.02 for that, but i am glad that i got good welcoming comment from @smokinglems and you can find that comment below.

And it was an booster for me because when nothing works then few warm words can help us to stand.

Thanks for sharing this post with us and wishing you an great day. Stay blessed. 🙂

@whatamidoing has been a touchstone for me since the very beginning. He always held my posts in high regard. I remember one day I was feeling discouraged because I was posting every day and nothing was happening. That same day he made an entire post appreciating my writing. He even used the words mind blowing! But he always encouraged me along the way, and he even delegated me some SP so people would notice me. I was able to return the good fortune because he was added to TribeSteemUP by me highlighting all the good he does for Steemit. He gathers together many, many, many minnows and supports them and creates community with them. He's an excellent touchstone, organizer, and supporter on Steemit.

@smooth went out if his way to help a newbie and totally nontechnical person learn how to mine Steem back when it was still mineable.

Interesting. When I joined @smooth was still quite active, and his dry, non-emotional explanations of his views on how the site would develop were really interesting and helpful.

lol, 'dry, non-emotional'. Pretty sure he is a bot.

lol, he is very mature! That stands out on this platform. :) I lol'd at the bot comment.

I really appreciate that he lets me bitch and whine about his burnposts every so often. :)

tbh i totally can not remember.

I love this upvoted and resteemed
And thank goodness I'm already your follower@sykochica she was the only person that made my staying here on steemit worth it because at some point I was ready to quit be she now gives me a reason to stay back secondly @jacobts he's The the main man Thank you two you really made me smile ☺ and @surpassinggoogle he's the reason I keep on going with he's motivation write up thank you sir too

Totally agree, high quality people @sykochica is always out there welcoming and helping people!

I think my first helpful post was a list of 50 or 100 people to follow on steemit and the first helpful comment was from @davemccoy who introduced me to curation and engagement league run by @abh12345.

I think the community on steemit is very helpful. Most that i have learnt about this platform is through engagement and reading posts.

I am glad you hear you have received a friendly reception. Cheers!

Well he was a random friend from facebook and to be honest he was really persuasive and insisted and he made a group and than we started .While after that I don't know he quit or I don't know what happened I tried to talk to him but he was not there.

But thanks to him for him I am in here and a new world just opened in front of me.

I think mine was @hope777

She loved my worked and was the first person to ever comment on my post.

It means alot to me and I am grateful and also hope I will be recognized soon as much as I desire it. While @whatsup was the person who made me feel welcome and encouraged me to comment more on his blog and others due to his regular Upvote in comments.

Well there was someone at the #deutsch Community who delegated 500SP to me because I was new. That made me feel welcome. But also everyone who commented or upvoted my first Posts.

Wow what a welcome!!!

I cannot actually mentioned a name cos I can say I worked my self to where I am now, may that is why my growth has been slow. But I will not do without mentioning @jammey who introduced me to steemit and @amec who introduced me to my first steemit community #euronation.

Oh, this is an easy one! @cryptosharon was so great to me! I'll sing her praises until the cows come home. And I'm pretty sure those cows are NEVER coming home. No one even knows where they are, or which cows they are for that matter.

She's the VERY first person who helped me and she held nothing back. She's still one of my favorite people on Steemit to this day.

I remember @dang007 was also really helpful to me!!! I am never going to forget the fact that he gave me advice when I was really new. I didn't even ask for it, he just offered it to me, and I'm SO grateful for that. I will never forget his act of kindness by doing that.

I met @connecteconomy in person maybe just a week or so after doing my first post on steemit, and she was super helpful! We talked about steemit for a long time over lunch!! She's a really fun, sweet, ambitious woman. I really really loved getting to meet her!! She's so genuinely likable from the get-go! She's the type of person you feel like you already know, so there was no awkward small talk or anything!

They are the main ones, and I'll never forget it!

I saw Cryptosharon everywhere recently and immediately liked her. It is nice also to see some names that many I haven't noticed yet.

@williambanks and I absolutely adored him...sadly he turned out to be a totally different person than we all thought he was....

I also had positive interactions with @williambanks I had nearly forgotten him, and yes, what a disappointment that was.

I had several who responded to comments I made and most were very welcoming.

My memory is not good enough for that.
Is there a way to check two years old comments?

believe it or not... it was @ackza i think all the other ones were bots... but he was the first human that said hi.

I've been following him since..

Not hard to believe at all. @ackza is filled with positive energy and an abundance of words! :)

My ex boy friend, he said "finally you join here" hahaha he made this account, because I've signed up three times but never got a password. I finally bought this account.

For me, it was @sequentialvibe. We had a beer last year and talked cryptocurrency for the first time and that conversation was Bitcoin, Ethereum and STEEM.

Since then, the ambassadors that have welcomed me to the platform and provided the utmost support have been @jiujitsu, @knot, @overkillcoin, @drewley and of course @whatsup off the top of my head.

Hopefully I have been as supportive to others and think I have made around 100 good friends here.

So awesome and I appreciate the reminder to thank the welcoming committee here.

I got lucky and found some great people as well. I don't want to coddle people, but I do sometimes wish we weren't so harsh. I guess I am getting soft. lol

It is true. You have to put some work into finding the people for the bots, then have only enough time/SP to support so many people until they are self sufficient.

Definitely a worthy cause as your efforts get duplicated for the betterment of the community and platform.

I can’t remeber the first person to welcome me but the most memorable and most helpful has definitely been @littlescribe she’s the best

She really is great! I love her too.

The person who introduced me to steemit was @tjkirk, I found out about it from one of his videos. The first person to write welcome on my introduceyourself post seems to be a spam channel, but I have met lots of cool people here.

I found the community extremely welcoming. I came in with zero expectations because it was all so new and different. I guess it could have gone either way, love it or hate it. But then I couldn't believe the amount of help and support that was coming my way. The first person who did a kind thing for me was @honeysim who nominated me for a pay it forward contest by @thedarkhorse. That gave me a first taste of how good it feels to be recognised for your work. I was instantly hooked, and the positive vibes and surprises kept coming.

The person who is having the most impact on me and my progress is @dreemsteem who found me and put me on the @welcomewagon. That was amazing and I hope every new recruit gets as much out of it as I did. For a week I could ask and learn everything I could think of. There are also lots of opportunities to mingle with awesome people on Discord channels such as @buddyup and @steemitramble, but living in Australia, I'm a little challenged by the time difference. Hopefully, I'll manage to join one of their shows sometime.

Then came the greatest surprise of all, one of my posts got picked by @curie during my @welcomewagon week. I didn't even know what that meant at that stage but I soon found out and was gobsmacked.

And @welcomewagen just invited me to spend a seniors week with them which gives me a chance to fill in even more gaps. So yes, I couldn't be happier with the way I was welcomed and taken care of here, and I'm grateful for every comment, upvote, resteem, and for every kind word. What a wonderful community!

Always love reading that someone appreciates the efforts of PIF. Just posted week 11's contest and we are always looking for entries. Hope you can find time this week to join in the fun.

I upvote and follow you please return back

I am new on steemit. But I follow try to big steemians rules. Please some advise. Thanks. @whatsup.

I only remember that a person who welcomed me and told to have good earnings on steemit

This post has received a 11.18 % upvote from @booster thanks to: @whatsup.

Yeah it does. In fact when I 1st got onto Steem I was intimidated by the trending pages. But I later discovered that there was an overwhelmingly high number of nice post and nice comments flying around. Everything was nice, like one big cup of tea..

I just spent a couple hours going down a rabbit hole in the comments of this post. :) I found some really good people to follow, and one person would lead me to another would lead me to another... That was fun! I found some interesting travelers and such.
