DIGITAL DIVIDE

In the last 60 years we have seen an incursion in Technology which is mainly in workplace , homes and schools.The computer technology started as Utilitarian (benefit for maximum people) tool but with the passage of time it become social tool.The first one is unreal world of entertainment and the second world is real computer technology-driven world, which has more links with our environment and makes our life routine activities easier and entertaining.

What is Digtial divide and its Indicators?
The technological inequalities among culture, countries, area are commonly known as Digital divide.
Digital divide mainly arose because there is a lack of understanding about it ..People have no knowledge about its origins , inputs and responses to inputs.The indicators which are related with communication technologies are radio , television , press , fax-machine , computers and connectivity to internet.Social , economic and geographical factors are influencing the digital divide.According to the UN Human Development Report 2011, there is a big digital divide between the industrial companies of northern and southern hemisphere. Household income is the greater predictor of internet.The digital divide become clear because a person who earn $3500 a month and a person who earn 300$ a month.

Obstacles to Overcome the Digital Divide:
Minimizing the digital divide requires considerable efforts and a plan in addressing the four types of access. The first one is physical access which involves individuals being able to obtain access to computers, landlines, and networks in order to access the Internet.The second one is financial access which involves to meet the costs of ICT devices, traffic, technician and educator training, and infrastructures. The third one is Political access which enables a faster growth of the Internet and other digital technologies. The last one is Cultural access which involves availability of images and language to carry over the digital inclusion across different cultural lines.
