I have definitely used the hashtag #deletefacebook and for me it goes beyond the data mining and lies perpetrated by Fakebook. The platform started out as if it was the product and all along we were designed as the product for them. Look up the Lifelog project. It was started by the CIA as a way to track the moves and thoughts of everyone. It was 'ended' on the same exact day that Facebook started. Facebook is a long arm of the Deep State and has always been in the business of exploiting people and their information. We're only just now seeing the extent of what those USER AGREEMENTS actually entailed. It did not include selling our data, which they did, and something they've vehemently denied doing..but they did it and continue to lie to their users.
The other reason I left Fakebook is that it turned into an echo chamber of anger and one-sided bitching. Even the interaction of 'friends' was becoming shallow and littered with emojis and cute, meaningless photos. It is not a place for anyone with an opinion that may contradict someone elses. The words 'racist', 'xenophobe' and 'priviledged' are tossed around so casually. It's ground zero for the unhinged, in my opinion.
Sad because it is a great tool, but I can't support it for reason stated and the deep deceptions attached to it.
Thx for sharing your thoughts tacos! :)
I never heard about Lifelog project. Interesting like hell.
Very bloody true.
Also I realized that many people complain about Steemit but I noticed that comparing to fb I can reach out to right people much easier here. Personally Im using fb already only as a communication tool. I dont even bother to check newsfeed.
I noticed also that young generation treats fb as platform for old people. Do you agree with that?
For at least two years before I deleted my FB account, I never checked the newsfeed, but you could still get the vibe by the 'suggested' news items that would show up anyway. I've heard that younger people are not using FB as much and have even heard that it will go the way of Myspace. Zuckerberg is banning crypto ads on FB, leading people to think he doesn't want the competition and is on the verge of entering Steemit and buy up Steem. I'm not sure how that will effect everyone, but I don't like the rich coming in and taking over influence only because they can afford it.
Appreciate your comment :) I also think that FB need to go away. Their time is ending.
Cheers,
Piotr
