An ancient religious place in Japan was declared a World Heritage Site of the UN Education, Science and Cultural Organization by UNESCO. But No Entry for women to that island....
This Okinoshima island has Okkusu Temple - Prayer for the safety of sailors in the sea, which was built in the 17th century.
But before walking on that island, men's clothes are to be taken off, they need to be cleaned and clean in a special way.
They are not allowed to carry any memorabilia while leaving the island. Even after leaving the island, they can not tell anyone what happened in that island.
However, reports of the Japan Times reported that long before the temple was built, there was a continuation of prayer for the safety of sea-going ships and for increasing trade ties with Korea and China.
Thousands of artifacts brought from abroad were found from the island. There were many gold rings brought from the Korean peninsula.
Once a year, on 27th May, visitors can go to that island. However, all the ancient traditions of the visitors have to be followed in alphabetical order.
The total number of visitors will not be more than 200. But the most controversial thing is that they all have to be men! Women are not welcome there!! Strange but true.
-_- That's not nice! Very strange indeed!
Why is it not nice?
It's an old tradition they have.
It would be rude to disrespect their tradition, wouldn't it?
It's only an island, but I think it's really important to them.
Sounds strange to me as well. Why women are not allowed to go there! In my belief, If its a religious place then it should be permissible for both male and female.
