There should be a Crypto currency linked to fitness trackers

in #cryptocurrency7 years ago

I recently got the Fitbit Charge 2 fitness band. While I love the device and I can see how it's meant to motivate me to move more and become more active I find chasing numerical daily targets a bit boring. Although the rewards in ones health may be worth it in the end.

So I was thinking... We need a crypto currency that is linked to fitness trackers. You get say 1 unit of currency for every step taken or the equivalent thereof as a form of motivation. I will be much more inclined to chase those 10 000 steps in a day, heck I will do even more if I was rewarded for it in in some way.

I totally agree with you. Fitness community needs something that rewards them for their hard work. I currently use Mi Band 2 which does good for me. All I need is to track my daily steps. I do workout but don't care to calculate calories burned within my exercises .. I don't think it will be accurate.

I see there is an ICO coming up named LYMPO. I just saw a Youtube interview of the CEO today. Here's the official explainatory video:

It seems a very interesting project at least to me, but will they honor their word. I will check out their detais thanks for sharing anyway.

Now THERE is a killer app!

The first fitness tracker to have it's own crypto behind it would just skyrocket.

You would be getting PAID to exercise. For someone like me, training for an ultra marathon, that could be a chunk of change. :-)

A typical training run is around 38,000 steps - a longer run is over 50,000 steps. If I was earning money while I was doing that, you can believe I'd be doing more long runs. :-)

That looks interesting. Any idea of when the dapp will be available for download?

Love the idea of this, biggest challenge will be how to avoid abuse. People will make fake stepping machines or just out right hack the device to report false numbers.. Guess you would need to implement caps on max number of steps at least

I'm currently is the planning stages for a Fitness coin that would incorporate this concept, but with many other features, like being able to use for memberships personal training and rewards for events, crossfit, local 5k etc

SweatCoin? That makes a new pun out of "Sweat Equity"!

Just wanted to share this link with you, thought it was an interesting concept that may somewhat addresses your want.

But I believe it's still a pretty early stage so far.OK, it's a great idea... These guys have already thought about something similar. https://lympo.io/

Love this idea! Although I doubt companies like Garmin and Polar would go through the hassle of developing their own cryptocurrency, I could see someone creating a fitness watch with a decentralized app with its own blockchain.

Sweatcoin's main premise is that physical activity has economic value. To clarify, your wish seems to have been granted: For every 1,000 steps taken, one earns 0.95 Sweatcoin.

Now, I have not tried it out yet because, from what I understand, it requires both the user to be outdoors and constant GPS access, which my battery cannot handle. It does feature a power-saving mode; however, said mode tends to reduce the app's accuracy.

On a related note, I use an app called Achievement, which pays one in fiat (either via PayPal or direct deposit) after earning 10,000 points ($10) via linking fitness applications/fitness trackers such as Fitbit and participating in simple programs and studies.

At any rate, I fully agree that earning currency for working out is a strong incentive (in addition to physical wellness, of course), and I am optimistic that soon more ventures will concentrate on creating superior applications in the space.
