Bitcoin

Bitcoin, the first cryptocurrency branded, it was created by the pseudonym Satoshi Nakamoto, it uses peer-to-peer technology (supported by the blockchain framework) to operate in a decentralized ecosystem, managing transactions and the mining is carried out collectively by the network. Bitcoin and its cryptographic code in open-source, its design is public, in an attempt to realize the anarchopolis desired for many, making the counterpart of the orthodox financial system. Everyone, and books of History later, will remember Bitcoin as the detonator in the digital economy, the first Proof-of-Work algorithm to be implanted.

Ethereum

Ethereum, the fourth cryptocurrency surpassing the 1000 USD barrier milestone, is a decentralized framework that apply for the first time a completely new contractual scheme: the smart contracts. What is an smart contract? Is an application that run exactly as set up without any possibility of lag, censorship, fraud or third-party interference (lawyers). It might the dispute settlement institution in the future and might replace, at least, the most mechanical and bureaucratic legal work. Currently, it has a PoW algorithm but caspers whispers promise to finish it sooner or later (PoS transition).

Of course this enables entrepreneurs and start-ups to create and consolidate its own markets, with its own parameters, every transactional operation should be available without having the need to the centralized bank to interfere.

At the same time, Ethereum aspire to be a crypto macro-verse, where multiple tokens and DApps (decentralized apps) will interact each other, creating some kind of synergy that could emulate (or even replace) the material exchanges.

Ripple

Ripple has been the celebrity in these days, having a sky-rocket growth from almost 900% since the beginning of December. This crypto asset has many divergences with others in the crypto world, some people don’t like it, because two main design characteristics: a) its a centralized cryptocurrency, where Ripple company controls the mining and supply distribution entirely and b) its inspiration to achieve the desired cohesion between the crypto market and financial markets. In other words, it pledged to be the new transactional SWIFT.

Cardano

Cardano (ADA) is an interesting project, founded in 2017 with a scientific philosophic goal: to become the more enhanced and sophisticate blockchain network worldwide. The first crypto lead by scientifics, engineers and cryptographers.

From the PoS algorithm to the large team behind this, Cardano is based on the Ethereum Classic fork crypto with principles of approach driven by peer reviewed academic research to build (and consolidate) Cardano entirely. The result is the first cryptocurrency to be based in Haskell code, an industrial strength product that delivers the resilience necessary for mission-critical systems, in this case securing investment.

Cardano promise to be a vanguard model to be followed closely in this year, its appreciation might be extremely undervalued.

Litecoin

Litecoin is noteworthy because it emerged as a fork from bitcoin. It is modeled after bitcoin but is designed to improve its transactional speed upon some of the largest cryptocurrency's features. Besides, the coin supply limit for litecoin is four times the size of bitcoin: 84 million LTC versus 21 million BTC.

Litecoin was designed to make transactions faster and easier; it takes about a quarter of the time to generate a litecoin block as it does one for the leading digital currency. Is branded as the silver in the digital economy, being Bitcoin the Gold, but has had many struggles in this month after being heavily pumped in December.

TRON

Tron is an Ethereum-based token, it was originally envisioned as a solution to a specific problem before it attracted the attention of investors eager for the next big cryptocurrency boom. In this case, its creators designed Tron as tech supported blockchain-based ecosystem for digital content, such as digital media.

Tron token have experienced a meteoric rise since the middle of December. As recently as last month, the coin’s value was less than a penny, but it reached highs Friday of about 26 cents. That surge was enough to make it briefly the sixth biggest cryptocurrency in the world, and its current $14.1 billion market cap makes it the seventh biggest as of this writing.

A meteoric rise is also backed by an important singaporean-chinese business network close to Jack Ma, Ali Baba’s founder, will it be the next Chinese Ethereum? Taking that label of NEO? Time will tell.
