➺ CNBC | What Sets Bitcoin apart from Ethereum ? 😒

in #cryptocurrency7 years ago (edited)

So CNBC just posted a video trying to explain Ethereum vs Bitcoin, in which I thought was EVASIVE.

Although, I see the approach they took to try and simplify things since Cryptocurrency is notably difficult to explain. I feel like the video was quite misleading! They are not the same thing and are not in an "arms race". What is the point of producing this if everyone involved is so ill-informed about this stuff? Ether and Bitcoin are not competing, but do very different things. One is to build apps and contracts whereas the other is to store wealth. I do feel like they complement each other and the only "competition" is the market cap value and trading price.

To get to the point, am I the only one frustrated with the media's approach on Cryptocurrency in general? With the increasing value of media attention, these new networks may one day be as popular as todays hulking Facebook but correct information sharing is a fundamental part of developing and running a cryptocurrency. All I see and hear is "Looks like a bubble", "A big number of scams, avoid"? I was really glad that mainstream media stayed out of this at first. Now since its gaining attention, so many people are likely to stream into a market they don't understand and lose. I don't want this to be some sort of rant but more of a discussion.

I welcome feedback if you think there are things I should do better. Any advices and guidelines would be appreciated, as your feedback is very important in helping me become better at this.
