I know they work on referrals, but I wonder if a co-ordinated sybil type attack vector would enable you to get to the top of the referral tree and shine the light from up there.

I don't think there's much to be gained. What they do is visible for anyone carefully watching the timing of the operation. Check in on part 2 where I'll do a minute by minute breakdown of the actual price action.
