A former employee of the Obama administration predicts the recognition of unregistered securities such cryptocurrencies as Ripple and Ethereum. In an interview with The New York Times, Gary Gensler said that after 10 years, digital assets should take a certain place in the financial structure. However, many of the current projects will sink into oblivion.
60-year-old Gensler in the Obama presidency was the head of the Commission on commodity futures trading, and now explores the phenomenon of digital assets at the Massachusetts Institute of technology. Mostly specialists occupy tokens ETH and XRP: precisely they in soon, according to Gensler's, can to gain status securities. This status may provoke the fall of these cryptocurrencies, as they will be forced to exist under the oppression of restrictive measures.
As for bitcoin, it is decentralized so that the regulation will not affect it.
Gensler noted that this year will be very fruitful for the events in the cryptocurrency industry. More than 100 exchanges offering ICO tokens will have to find solutions how to comply with U.S. securities laws.
