Of course it is being launched on Ethereum, which is all ready a congested network. So let's hope that the game is NOT too successful, or else people will have issues transact and the gas price goes up again.

On the other hand, it's nice to see that commercial institutions is joining the Blockchain train. Will this bring more attention to crypto? I'm sure it will! And the masses has to start somewhere. If that is with Ethereum, MEW and Metamask, that is OK.

It’s a crypto-based version of the classic collectibles that’s similar to the most popular blockchain game CryptoKitties, where players can buy and trade cartoon kitten characters with ether. CryptoKitties has already made over $25 million worth of ether, making it a huge success. In the MLB version of the game, people will be able to purchase avatars involving some popular moments in baseball history. Those avatars can then be sold or traded, and users can earn rewards.

Kenny Gersh, MLB’s executive VP of gaming and new business ventures, says that MLB has been eyeing cryptocurrency for a long time, and rejected other ideas before settling on doing a game with Lucid Sight.

“We talked a long time ago about bitcoin and whether we should accept it as payment for MLB.tv and some of our other products, and we opted not to,” Gersh says. “At the end of the day we decided that isn’t our business, we’re not in the speculation business. We’re in the business of delivering baseball to fans. So this game is a more interesting intersection of blockchain technology and what we do.”

CryptoKitties had a direct influence on the new MLB game. “We were already talking to Lucid Sight around the time that CryptoKitties first came out,” Gersh says, “and then CryptoKitties sort of validated it a little bit more.”

Even if most people arent tech savy enough to join the world of crypto, more people will close their eyes and jump. Create a Coinbase account, buy some Eth and transfer some of it to Metamask. I think young people today is able to do that?

This is slick idea! People love their bobbleheads and various baseball memorabilia!

This is going to be huge for cryptogaming adoption. An MLB liscense, my hat is off to Lucid Sight, they are crushing it.

Couldn't agree more. I'd be shocked if this doesn't work out.
