Does Marijuana Make You a Better Artist? [You decide]

in #creativity7 years ago (edited)

This surprising list of famous artists may shock you as you find out who’s for (or against) the use of marijuana.

You be the judge of whether pot helped the careers of these famous artists, or if those who stayed straight took the better path.

According to neurologist Dr. Alice Weaver Flaherty at Massachusetts General Hospital and professor at Harvard Medical School marijuana (at smaller doses) is a stimulant that can have pronounced affects on the brain’s frontal lobe, the area believed to have the most influence on creativity. Did it help these artists? Or was keeping a clear mind the ticket to creative genius?

You be the judge: did marijuana help or was staying sober the better deal?

I don't know about it making people better artists but I think it can help make people better all around! The pharma companies are killing more people and causing more medical problems than anything, and pot can help to fix that. It should stay natural and become the first prescribed medicine for anything.

I agree. But just like anything, pot can be over used. I think anything done in balance and with good intentions is OK, so long as it does not harm yourself or others. Marijuana is clearly safe. I think it has clinical benefits if used properly. I think it can enhance creativity if used properly. I think it can be a detriment to either if not used properly. One thing I did not include in this list were artists who once did weed then quit, mostly because it no longer helped them. I think knowing where you are in your career, and where weed plays it's part in that is also important. So in the end, it depends on a lot of things, really. :)

Thanks for the comment!

I completely agree! It's just like with any other drug or alcohol and even cigarettes... Anything can be misused and so many people do it. Responsibility is key to it helping in your success and not it being the downfall of it all.

I think it would be important to add the image source to make your article really stand out ......I enjoyed the topic !!!

Oh, you know, that's a good point. Let me dig up the sources. I meant to do that. Thank you.

I’ve been smoking mist of my life (sunce 12 years old, it’s usually lart of my creation process too...)

Ha! When the time is right I puff.

I love this post and it got me thinking, is it really that harmful if taken properly.

nice post i enjoy the topic, i think marijuana and acid will be great composition to expand creativity

There is nothing safe about marijuana. It's not dandelion tea or lettuce. Somebody just hanged themselves over a legalisation issue in the Netherlands of all places (thought it was legal there). In the houses of parliament! I know quite a few people who have become very paranoid on weed. And some have swiftly moved onto harder drugs for the easy access in certain circles. One thing quickly leads to another. But then let's also discuss alcohol.... Solution? Prohibition clearly not. Warning against abuse is a start, but strongly advising against all use (especially children) is my policy.

It's not for everyone.
