Panic buying. What an ugly phrase.
Well, I’m feeling not exactly safe and secure right now. I usually keep 2 weeks worth of food and water stocked, but this gas price spike is making me worry food prices will double again very soon. With a possible World War 3, nuclear threats, international trade grinding to a halt, et cetera et cetera, can anyone not worry? I’m overstating things, but still, there’s some cause for concern. Worse, what if others also worry and this we once more see empty shelves?
I had planned to go eat at a restaurant today, to treat myself after working hard for a week (I don’t have a regular office job with regular weekday shifts). Instead, I think I’ll go to Costco and stock up on staples and non-perishables. Again. I had planned on a regular grocery run Friday, but I’m not willing to wait now that the anxiety has started to set in. Better to be safe than sorry, right?
I already have a 50lb bag of rice (or was it 25? Whichever bag was the heaviest I could lift.) I will see about getting another one just to be safe. Also, some ramen; I eat much too much ramen. And eggs, don’t forget eggs; I just need eggs.
Oh and toilet paper. I actually need it this time, down to my last 2 rolls. Hopefully the shelves aren’t bare again. Last time I had to get the disgustingly scratchy stuff. Yuck! I know, I know, bidet; I just don’t feel like trying to install one.
I also need some more tinned food. Maybe? I have quite a lot - like 24 tins of diced tomatoes alone. Also, I perhaps need some ranch; just not sure if Costco-sized bottles are the way to go there. More vegetables before it all runs out. Maybe some frozen dumplings; definitely more dumplings. I like the bulgogi ones that are pre-cooked, fries up in a pan beautifully and tastes amazing. Also more lasagna. I want lasagna for dinner today.
So that’s my plans for the surprise anxiety-induced grocery run happening right now. Wish me luck in the paper products aisle?

Photos from my iPhone SE2. I once got a double yolk egg.
Egg on ramen: open ramen, put in bowl, add water. 2 minutes in microwave. Stir. Add egg. Microwave 1-2 minutes (to preferred yolk texture). Add preserved vegetables if desired (I’m a fan of kimchi and bamboo in chili oil l, but any leftovers will do too). Enjoy your quick and inexpensive meal!
That’s all folks.

I think we are going through difficult times, the price of many things has increased. Turkey was already an expensive country to live and now everything is getting worse because of the war. So it's okay to panic... I love ramen btw, it looks delicious.
Looks delicious 😋
You're not overstating anything btw. Not to spread the panic, but the whole world is coming into some rough days ahead. (Even if no nuclear war happens)
Yeah. I just hope it’ll all be a fever dream this time next year. Everything for the past couple of years.
