As always, the liquid rewards from this post will be converted to SP an sent to @welcoming! for even more curation
Hey guys,
As many of you may know, I founded the account @welcoming 65 days ago. If you don't know what it is about, let me explain that to you real quick.
It is an account solely dedicated to find promising introduction-posts of new users and to upvote and/or resteem them.
The main reasons for this are:
- The tag #introduceyourself is spammed with tons of posts which don't belong there
- Therefore good intros get missed easily and don't get the attention they deserve
I give existing users a chance to see a decent amount of manually curated introduction-posts without having to dig through tons of spam. This gives the new users more attention and makes it easier for them to get discovered by an exisiting user with similar interests or any other connection.By following @welcoming
Since I think steemit is a lot about it's wonderful communities, I think helping to grow them is a step in the right direction.
That's what I am trying to do with @welcoming!
A look back at the first 50 resteems
A few days ago I thought that it would be really interesting to see how the people I have resteemed with @welcoming performed on steemit since then. Of course there is not THE parameter which can describe performance - That's why I have decided to look up the first 50 users @welcoming resteemed and note some values connected to their account.
That's what I have got:
- green = active within the last week
- yellow = active within the last month
- red = inactive for a month or longer
Let's start with the negative news - 18 of the accounts have not been active within a month. Most of them probably might just have lost the interest in the platform or stopped cause they didn't get the success they expected to get. Some of those accounts also may have just lost their password (since many didn't even claim there rewards to at least cash them out) and may therefore seem inactive - even if they might have a new account that is still active (If you know that for any of the users in red, please tell me)
Six users have been active within the last month but not within the last week! - Since their resteems have been around 60+ days ago, they have at least been active for a while and might just have stopped for now due to holidays, real life work, etc. Hard to tell a lot about those six. But since they at least have been around for one month, I would count them as positive resteem.
What is really great in my eyes is the fact, that 26 users I have resteemed a little over two months ago, are still active members of the community. That's over 50% of the resteemed ones!
Let me just highlight three of them who I personally still have contact with:
@sco: The first ever resteem from @welcoming may be one of the best ones made ever. @sco has contributed many well researched scientific articles since then. A few days ago, he even announced that he has helped to create a german subgroup of the popular science-curation service @steemstem. Congrats man!
@kevinli: This young dude from Melbourne has entertained a lot of users with his VLog and even helped to educated others about crypto mistakes by showing the ones he made. Since a few weeks, Kevin even is helping with the curation for @welcoming during the hours I sleep ;)
@cabernet: This American girl with roots in Nepal is stepping up against hate and violence towards woman with high-quality posts about regarding topics.
Are those numbers good?
Honestly, I don't know. I have nothing to compare them to. But I think that a rate of over 50% for users that are still active is a big number.
Most of the still active users would probably have done without the help of welcoming as well, I am not claiming to have any share in their personal success ;)
However I still think that what @welcoming is doing helps "good users" to get a smoother start into the world of the STEEM-Blockchain. And if it is only by helping them to get some extra SP to stop their bandwidth issues ;)
How does @welcomings future look like?
Bright, I hope!
Due to the free 10,000 SP delegation from @transisto (a huge THANK YOU once again!) plus the 10,000 SP I pay for (financing that by self-upvoting comments!), I can operate with quite a lot of power.
Additionally, the whales @acidyo, @ausbitbank and @pharesim are helping a lot with their votes! Thanky you guys!
So @welcoming should still be running smoothly even at the times where I will have less spare time!As I stated above, @kevinli has been helping me with the curation for quite a while now. @security101 is also starting to get involved in the curation process + I will be looking for one or two more curators in the near future.
Since I think it works fine and I have gotten positive feedback from others, the account will keep on with resteeming up to 10 articles a days (+50-60% upvotes) + voting with 20-30% on an additional 10-20!
Can I help?
Of course I am happy about all the help I can get!
You can help by:
- Delegating some Steempower (you will of course get your share in the curation rewards!)
- Vote-Following @welcoming (If you are a whale, even 1% means a lot to a newbie!)
- Manually voting + commenting on resteemed intros you like
- Reporting well made intros to @welcoming (via the memo function!)
- and whatever else you can imagine to help with :)
If you have any ideas on how to make @welcoming better, please tell me!
Until then, bye :)
As always, the liquid rewards from this post will be converted to SP an sent to @welcoming!
Thank you for the mention @theaustrianguy! You were probably my first Steemit friend on here. I've been talking to a few of my friends on and off steem about this @welcoming idea because I think it's inspiring and motivating to new users. I want to be a part of a team on here and I really wish I could help you with curating but because of school, I can't even stay super active with my own account. Hopefully, once I graduate, you'll still have spots available for extra help ;)
I think that's actually how I might have found you! :) It was from someones resteem! :)
That's so great! :) glad to have found you and Jess here. You guys are sisters goals ;) I'm working on bringing my sister onto Steemit as well :D
well, it's time to say thank you again for the ongoing support since day one.
@welcoming is a great service, and one of the things I like most about it is that it supports lots of people with very different blogging interests. This wide variety is really unique, and one of the reasons why I'm still following it and thus why I'm adding the occasional vote or comment too.
I just found out about Kevinli. He seems like a pretty cool dude.
Congrats on all the success you have had since creating welcoming. You have helped so many people including me and Spencer to keep going and catch our bearings. This platform needs welcoming :)
Paolaaaaa 👍🏻
More than 50% success rate is quite decent, I guess. For the project itself, it seems like a another useful way to get easier access to high quality content. Sure, there is always the steemstem-community, but more tools for highlighting quality is probably a good idea anyway :)
Your post very very important and amazing and pawaarfull and useful for all people
Thank you once again.Thank you @theaustrianguy for birthing @welcoming.... The encouragement it has given can be seen in your post above. I did not get anyone to guide me through the #introduceyourself post so mine was kind of like watery. will my post still be voted?
I love this.
It will be my first post to resteem.
I am a newbie and my blog is suffering, this is not what I was told.
Maybe I will reintroduce myself using this tag.
Thanks.
I would love to know if steemstem also contributes to videos or only to pure Steemit-Posts.
I think thats a good idea tho, i will follow @welcoming and will upvote the posts i like. even if my votes don't help a lot, its still the feeling that someone cares about the work the people have done with the post. ☺️
Nice idea. Resteemed.
Hey @theaustrianguy. Great initiative! I've followed @welcoming. How do I get my #introduceyourself post upvoted & resteemed? I'm new and here's my post: https://steemit.com/introduceyourself/@aaronteng/introduceyourself-hi-steemit-i-m-aaron-here-s-why-i-m-here
Awesome idea.. #upvoted
Feine Sache!
Hab Dich hier erwähnt: Pitch Me Your Project.
Viel Erfolg!
Wow! Great analysis! Awesome to see that some people stuck with Steemit! :) Keep up the good work! Resteemed :)
Of the green members that are active within the last week, five of them are in the homesteading community I belong to and I remember finding them on your page and invited them to our group. And I still converse with them almost daily on here.
Awesome job dude, I wish I had more spare time to jump in and help with the curation. I hope in the not so distant future I will be able to support myself from steem so I would have more time for projects like this.
Cheers!
It's been an awesome ride so far!
Intresting research on new accounts going on here. Thanks for the findings summary.
Your post very very important and amazing and pawaarfull and useful for all people
Danke!
It is great to find support in the beginning, even if I have been around half a year ago.Hello @theaustrianguy, I just received some curation from your @welcoming page and I want to thank you very much!
The Idea behind your actions is great! Please keep it up, as you are benefiting the whole community by motivating new Steemit User.
The Figure above looks for me incredible ! 26 out of 50 are still there and using Steemit actively! Great Job!
What a nice thing to do! Been om steemit for a week now and amazed about the kindness in here. And also finding some very nice content so will definitely stay in here.
