1. INTRODUCTION
In Classified France '44, every few days (or every few missions), you have the chance of receiving a random event where you have to choose between two different options.
It is not possible to receive the same event multiple times during the same campaign. The event you receive is random though if you want to min/max, you can technically save right at the end of a mission and then keep reloading until you get an event that you like. Random events can only happen at certain points so there is not always the chance for a random event to happen. Also, note that it is not guaranteed that a random event will happen. If you reload at the end of a mission, sometimes you will get a random event but sometimes no random event will appear.
Most random events involve making trade-offs between different resources:
- Supplies
- Faction relationship
- Time/days
Some events are essentially a "choose the lesser evil" where you have to choose between losing resources of one type or losing resources of another type. Other events offer you the opportunity to gain a resource or other benefits (which can include region strength, equipment, an FFI point, or fatigue healing) at the cost of another resource.
In this post, I have screenshots of many of the possible events in Classified France '44. However, since I only started making screenshots midway through my latest campaign, it is possible that there are a few events that I missed.
2. REGION STRENGTH EVENTS
These are probably the two best random events in the game. Additional region strength directly contributes to your winning objective (i.e. accumulating Resistance Strength in preparation for D-Day). It also helps you unlock another region ability more quickly.
If you want to learn more about how the Resistance Strength winning mechanic works, then please read my article: Classified France '44: Winning with Resistance Strength

The Competition event is unique in that you can get a strong benefit (Region Strength +1) for no cost at all. Most other events usually cost you some resources in exchange for a benefit.
It may be tempting to go for the +50 supplies, which can make a big difference in the early game. The negative faction relationship can be easily overcome. The SVT-38 Sabre is blue-level and can be quite strong if you get it early, but eventually you will find better weapons.
If you are new to this genre of games or find the difficulty of Classified France '44 to be challenging, then you may want to go for the short-term boost of the supplies and SVT-Sabre. But if you are well experienced with this game or similar games (i.e. XCOM, Jagged Alliance, etc.) then you may realize that the strategic benefits of the Region Strength +1 are much better in the long run.
This time around, the Region Strength +1 costs you supplies but it is worth it. The alternative is losing 7 faction reputation with the Gaullists. So essentially, think of the 27 supplies as buying you the region strength and also not causing you to lose faction reputation. You should just about always pay the supplies for the region strength.
3. EQUIPMENT EVENTS
There are two really good events which offer powerful equipment in exchange for spending a day of time. Even though you should normally be judicious in your usage of days, these are cases where I think it is usually worth it to get the items.
The "Commando" Smock is a purple-level chest clothing for Male British characters. It ranks among the best equipment for such characters, even at the end game.
The -1 Aimed Fire Cost only benefits Ollie Johnson (Heavy) since Tom King (Support) and Vincent Tremblay (Scout) use hip fire primary weapons. However, even Tom and Vincent may choose to equip with the smock for the +1 firearm damage.
I don't remember the exact stats of the Bren MK.2 "Valiant" but I do recall that it was a rather average gun and not too notable (in contrast to the "Commando" Smock).
The "Eagles" Helm is a purple-level head clothing for Male Americans, which means only Willard Cassady (Leader) and Luke Anson (Marksman) can use it. The most notable thing is that it provides a whopping +2 Armor.
4. PAY FOR A BENEFIT EVENTS
The Region Strength and Equipment events are notable enough to get a special mention but there are other, similar events which give you the option to pay resources for some benefit:
This one is quite good because normally the Recruit FFI task costs 18 supplies and takes 4 days and you can only have one Recruit FFI task ongoing at a time.
While this FFI point costs 27 supplies (instead of 18), you get it immediately, saving you time and allowing you to stock up on FFI points if you plan to keep running those tasks anyway. Also, the alternative is losing 10 faction relationship points with both the Gaullists and the Radicals.
In theory, these two events allow you to spend supplies to heal some units of fatigue (and to not lose any faction relationship).
However, all fatigue-related events currently seem to be bugged in that they do not correctly heal or add fatigue (the latter in the case of Route March).
You still might opt to lose supplies over losing faction relationship but just keep in mind that unfortunately, your units may still be fatigued.
2 days is a lot. If you have been playing smartly and carefully managing the enemy units, then it's probably not worth it. Fortunately, the other option is just that "nothing happens."
I suppose there might be some rare circumstances where incapacitating an enemy unit (which is essentially like gaining an FFI point that must be spent immediately) is important:
- An enemy unit is right on the verge of finishing a reprisal.
- At the end of the game when you might not have the time to repair regions.
- You don't want to lose access to a key region ability.
- If you already have multiple damaged regions and don't want to add to the backlog.
- If you are starved on supplies and don't want to spend another 27 supplies on repairs.
Either you lose faction relationship with the Criminals or you pay some supplies to instead gain faction relationship with them. In the early game, it's probably worth it to spend supplies to gain relationship, especially when you consider that an Aid Faction task costs 12 supplies anyway and you should be regularly performing that task throughout most of the game.
5. CHOOSE THE LESSER EVIL EVENTS
These are generally negative random events where you have to choose between two bad options. You essentially have to "choose the lesser evil" and decide which resource to lose:
Time is usually more important, so you are generally better off losing faction relationship.
Time is usually more important, so you are generally better off losing supplies.
Time is usually more important, so you are generally better off getting some fatigue.
As mentioned earlier, events are currently bugged so that they do not correctly heal or add fatigue. So right now, choosing the fatigue option doesn't actually add fatigue.
But even if it was working as intended, it's still probably the better option. Having some additional fatigue simply means you either choose a less-optimal team for your next mission (and then everyone else will heal up their fatigue), or some of your units have a slight action point penalty if you send fatigued units on the next mission.
