The pit is that place or point in a man's life where all hope is lost, dreams shattered, help isn't forth coming and the point where people who you literally look up to are the ones who turn you down
Until then, he only had an idea of how great he was destined to be. Although he was the 11th son by rank, he was never limited by his position in the family.

For every idea you have, give it time. It was only a matter of time, Joseph was pulled out of the dry pit,and guess what? He gained control over the entire country of egypt, a strange land. It didnt come on a platter of gold.
Therefore;
Whatever seems' to weigh you down, GIVE IT TIME
Whatever seem like a burden, GIVE IT TIME
Even unpleasant situations, GIVE IT TIME
