The visit to the orphanage was the most fulfilling trip of steemcamp. It was a trip that showed us the importance of gratitude to God for the conditions we find ourselves in because there are many people hoping diligently to be in your condition.
As early as 9:00am in the morning, we ask set to Delta shopping mall (shoprite) to get food items, groceries and stationeries for the less privileged children in the orphanage.
On getting to the mall, everyone got their shopping baskets which gave us the opportunity to pick as much as we wanted for the orphans. We got things like bag of rice, books, pencils, crayons, chocolate, cereals to mention a few.
After shopping, we were opportuned to do free eye checkups at an eye clinic in the mall.
Immediately after, we left the mall for the bus. on getting to the bus, we meet some school children who came to the mall for an excursion, we gave them some school stationeries and they were grateful for it. The principal gave a speech on behalf of them thanking us for the gifts provided.
After the encounter, we all entered the bus and headed to St.Anne's orphanage in Airport roots Warri, Delta state. On reaching there, we presented our gifts and were taken inside to see the physically challenged children (its a pity there are no photos available because we were not allowed to take pictures inside).
We should indeed be grateful to God, on entering there, we saw children who were paralyzed, those with just an eye, imbeciles etc. it was really heart touching, as some of the contestants broke down in tears thinking how young innocent children could face all these pain. The staff members at the organization told us majority of them were thrown away because of their condition but they came to their rescue.
We took pictures, said our good byes and went back to camp.
