Great News For All!
It seems like an amazing project is about to happen. As expected, it will not make itself happen, so we've gotta help out with it. But that's part of the whole fun. And it seems there is considerable interest in getting organized, so we could enjoy the fruits of each others' labor and creativity.
What am I talking about, again?
This challenge is about sending some type of self-made (home-brewed, hand-painted, you name it) product of our own making to a fellow steemian who also has something to offer. Instead of sending something back, they would send it forward, to a third one, and so on, and so on, until the chain has circled the globe, and the first person has received something from the last. Meanwhile, everyone involved would keep posting articles specifically for this project, upvote others' articles designated for this purpose, and transfer the rewards to the person whose turn it is to send a gift. This way we would finance the shipping fees collectively through blogging on steemit, one leg at a time.
Do You Like the Idea? You're not Alone!
Since last week, when I raised this idea in a post, there have been SEVEN people expressing their interest in participating. I've made a (more or less accurate) world map with these seven (plus yours truly makes eight) players. I know, the lettering may be a tad bit small to read... no worries, in next week's preparation article it'll look more readable. Because as great as things are looking, we are nowhere near to being ready to start. Unless of course we want to spend a fortune on each leg, having to write hundreds of articles. By the way, I designated the rewards from the first preparation article for the first leg. So whatever the shipping fees are, we've got 0.125 SBD, 0.115 SP less to raise.
Let's Review the Participants
Of course it's all about the people, so let me recap the seven founding members with their location and item they're willing to send. I decided to put them in geographical order, which may not even be completely accurate at this point. Corrections are always welcome. I'm not even suggesting to adopt this same order for the shipping circle. I'm sure that will change anyhow once we get more participants.
- @ecoinstant --- Tolima, Colombia 371048 --- 1lb hand picked and finely roasted organic coffee (mmmhhh).
- @stortebeker --- Mexico City 11850 --- a bottle (750ml) of home brewed mead or a jar of spirulina pesto.
- @nerd-minion --- Missouri, USA 65742 --- a lost treasure, found with his metal detector!
- @greenacrehome --- North Carolina, USA --- a hand-made soap or an item from his woodworking shop.
- @spaingaroo --- Southern Spain 23670 --- medicinally modified extra-virgin olive oil (or, depending on the local laws, maybe another non-food item)
- @ecoknowme --- India ---
- @wuji --- India ---
- @overthewait --- Queensland, Australia --- a handmade steempunk item
Of course even this short list is not complete yet, but we're in no hurry. We'll keep filing on it until it is. Guys in India: where abouts are you located (just the postal code, to help estimate the fees... once we get to that point) and what would you like to send to the next person in line?
Okay, How Can You Join?
If you're name is not on the list, but you would like to be, please don't hesitate to let us know in a comment. Also, in case of any questions or concerns, just ask. We would LOVE to have you join, as long as you're also on steemit (very likely) and have something self-made you'd like to offer the next person in geographic proximity.
For those who already are on the list, an upvote and/or resteem is always appreciated, as that's how this project will move ahead. I don't make it a requirement though, let it take as long as it takes. The other thing that's worth gold is ideas, suggestions, recommendations, to really make get the most out of this whole thing. So far nothing is set in stone, except for the part about a self-made item, and funding the shipping through steemit blogging.
Suggestions So Far:
Finally, let me list the suggestions I've gotten so far. I like them all, and it would be awesome to implement them, but for now I'd just like to keep them on the table. I think once we are ready we can still decide collectively which ones to adopt. But here they are:
- Sending a small notebook, something that makes the trip around the world, with nice messages for future recipients.
- Sending a USB drive, to record pictures and other files.
- Sending a letter / card if we can't send a parcel, with each member adding to the writing.
- Sending a bill from our local fiat currency.
All right, in next Sunday post I'll recap the members and suggestions, and hopefully we'll get much closer to the eventual form this project will take. Thank you all for participating, and making this the enormous success it is bound to be!
this looks interesting to keep tabs on and fallow as well I've resteemed in case others would like to sign up :)
upboating and resteems Lets do this thing!
:-)
Oops sorry, I am @ecoknowme, I use the personal account for extra boosts and comments and to keep content separate. One less but I can probably find at least 3-4 more to replace my double. :)
I am willing to pass on a USB (probably empty but maybe some garden pictures...... . . . ) . I can also provide handmade soap, Eucalyptus oil, carrot root oil, lemongrass oil, or MOST spices you would expect from South India.... oh yeah and COFFEE! Let me know what people would like. @firepower is in Bangalore... not sure if he is interested but for me here in India, there could be lots of exchanges we could do within the Subcontinent.
