Introduction

The world of steem is exploding right now. Users are up, voting is up, commenting is up, price is up...we are going through wave 2 of growth right now. A lot of the work that was being done quietly in the background is now coming to fruition.

Esteem, SteemQ, chainBB, Zappl, Steepshot and many others are slowly coming out to compete with steemit.com

screenshot-steemdb.com-2017-06-13-08-21-55.png

NOTE: Just in case you are new here, all those platforms are on the STEEM blockchain. They all work in synergy. Some will display all the content found on the blockchain while other will only display the content generated on their platform.

How This Explosion Will Impact User Behaviors

One thing that I have been noticing is how much an interface can influence the way I interact with the content on the STEEM blockchain.

For example, when I am on steemit.com, I scroll and find a whole bunch of random posts...some that I am interested in and some that I'm not. Someday, I cannot find anything that grabs my attention. But it's always a fun process.

On chainBB, it's very different. I use it to stay up to date on the different projects that interest me:
EOS, bitshares, Peerplays and so on.

When I browse on chainBB, it is for a specific purpose and for discussions.

When Zappl will be released, it will be a completely different game. The number of posts will go through the roof since there will be a character limit on each posts.

From there, a lot of things will change: voting patterns, commenting patterns, resteem, etc.

I'm truly wondering how steemit.com will deal with this. It seems that the intention of steemit.com is to be the "catch all" interface.

Should an Interface Display Everything or Only What is Being Posted on Their Platform?

This is still an open question to me. It makes no sense for me, in the case of Zappl or Steepshot, to display everything on the steem blockchain. For the sake of consistency and also for the sake of an app culture, it makes sense to not display posts coming from other apps. What do you think?

In the case of chainBB, I believe this app can evolve into a massively decentralized app where each community can have it's own forum on it's own domain.

ChainBB Trail Updates

So, as some of you know, I've started a voting trail to reward people who write posts or comments via chainBB. I've been voting like a banshee! Lots of you have been benefiting from this.

Thanks to all the people who have been following the chainBB trail!

This effort has proven to bring fruit!

Conclusion

Let's keep pushing forward! Please share what you think will be the impact of multiple apps on the same blockchain and how you think it is best to move forward.

Glad to know more about chainbb. Didn't really know much about steem blockchain but now I think I have a better understanding than I was. Now I am using the chainbb platform to make this comment. Thanks for the info

This is my first comment via chainbb - I really like the interface and commend you on a really good job so far! I am loving everything about steem at the moment and cant wait to get more involved. At the moment I am trying to post as much as I can with interesting articles and info about my own projects. As a newbie without a lot of power I don't get a lot of love as yet. But I am sure that will come.

@ amexperts I need to go over and try this don't I hate this standard editor hahah

I come by completely different content when I'm using chainBB versus steemit.com, and I personally need both options to keep me interested in the chain as a whole.

The interface on chainBB is just the deeper end of the shoreline for me, while steemit.com are the waves I go surfing in when I'm not looking for anything in particular. And both have served me equally well, so far, in finding new waters I want to play in.

Thanks so much for the upvotes!
I think all of these sites based on the Steem blockchain are awesome... incredible technology that will continue to grow as more and more become aware of it!

Depends on the platform, but for something like steepshot or zappl, definitely keep the displays separate

Platforms should use a different rewards curve. I come from twitter, I'm probably a little better at punching out 1 liners than writing long form articles. Last thing I want to do is drain the rewards pool by have a 300 steem curation trail follow me if I make 20 zaps a day, unless everyone else is doing it.

There'll be some free market arguments like everyone should be free to charge what they want and use the same rewards curve but this is highly debatable from an advanced economics perspective. I really think the devs of these apps, zappl and steepshot in particular, need to work something out with Steemit Inc. who should take this very seriously.

If we get this wrong, people will just be exploiting their big curation trails on a single photo or 1 liner and it could undermine the entire eco system

I sincerely hope you as a high stake whale can follow this issue up for the betterment of community. lately I have seen some real weird posts... from new users, earning not too bad rewards by a short post like news, single photo , etc... I have to control my desire to flag by not agreeing with rewards ... but for now, I am giving these new things some room to sort it out... if not, this is really bad signal for new and diligent bloggers. My 2 cents.

@trafalgar always a great perspective look fw to always reading more of your work big luv

I totally agree!

...unless everyone else is doing it 😁

Let me cast my mind back to a $500
Turd I saw the other day 💩

"I come from twitter, I'm probably a little better at punching out 1 liners than writing long form articles"

probably not when i look how many words following afterwards hihihi :-)

I think ChainBB is an awesome application. I've been using it a lot and I think it has great potential. Jesta the chainbb creator is doing great things.

I have been thinking about that quite a bit actually, as Steemit is a “catch all” for everything posted via eSteem, Zappl, ChainBB etc., this means that all the Zaps and quick posts on ChainBB will make a users’ Steemit account look odd in a way and must be thought about by each user as to whether that will effect the way they post or not on some of these other apps on top of Steam. Great post as always @cryptoctopus!

Its been so great since i started using chainbb for steemit. Its been much more exciting and i like the sorting. I am addicted to chainBB

I am now using eSteem alot, mainly for comments as there will be votes for my comments.
Chainbb is another one I am using too. Since not all posts on Steemit appear on Chainbb, I have to switch among Steemit, eSteem and Chainbb quite often.
SteemQ, Zappl, and Steepshot are totally new to me, will be good if someone can let me know more about them.
I guess now the question is if all the different apps should show same amount of posts. That should be decided by the developers, based on original purposes of the apps.

Thanks for the update on all this. there's so much happening here now, we simply can't keep up with all of it. Having focus on one thing at a time very clearly seems to help combat diffusion while targeting results as efficiently as possible.

Keeping the potential of a wide view on that is happening helps by having the apps modalities horizontally organized through windows by principle and from there vertically for subsections based on these principles.

Namaste :)

Just having my first look around chainbb now and responding to this post from the platform 👍🏾

@abh12345 I should go over there and try it

yes you should!

Thanks for the information. It affects where I post and comment. Great job.

I think each app could build up their own user base until the can gain their independence from Steemit. Some could do it from the get-go and some could take longer. The ones that build up their base should look forward to the separation as an anticipated event to be celebrated.

Another option is to give users the choice of posting or not posting to Steemit.

I am really looking forward to the day when I can integrate or replace my website, www.myhuntingfishing.com with a ChainBB type forum where people can contribute their pics, stories and and tips and earn money for themselves and the site. What do you think?

Most of all I want to thank you for your generous upvoting of our comments and posts. It has been great to participate in this project.

OK OK ..... I'm finally signed in here on chainbb ! hmmmm ..... checking out the different communities ... wowza... there goes the rest of my spare time :)

Dino but since I started using the esteem app I'm posting a ton more, well at least comments, because you get some up votes for it.. This you contribute more and get something in return+ some stimulation..
Cheers :)

Is the esteem app secure? I'm on my phone most of the time when I use steemit but the mobile site isn't the most user friendly and I'd love to use an app if I know it's secure (password/wallet security I guess is what I'm thinking about)..

In all honesty, i see no difference in my past posts the ones i made via chainbb, infact the rewards comes scantily cos chainbb needs to be funded. But quoting a friend who dragged me into using Chainbb "You will be wowed if you use chainbb to post, cos all the whales on it will support you" which never happened!

True man! i just came here when i read a post from one of the whales that how he'll like all the posts on chainbb and you'll earn like 1$ for every post and comment, he hardly liked one or two of my posts.

during this weekend, my bot was disabled because I lacked SP. Very sorry for the hiccup.

Very dissapointing yeah?

Верно...обычный хоровод

Верно написали..

Zappl will start a revolution inside Steemit platform.

Yes, Zappl will be interesting. I would say steemit will be more "spammed".

We will see hot it goes.

Only what is being posted on their platform or what they subscribed.no random posts. So far my beef with steem is this huge number of post and I always miss good ones.its very difficult to discoer good content from new people

ok, its time to check this thing out, thank you in advance. I also found it interesting how eos will work with bts and steem

Yeah... Steemit may eventually be forced to exclude posts from chainBB or Zappl. Zappl in particular I can see clogging up the Steemit feed and pissing people off. Steemit might have to differentiate itself as the Steem medium to long form blogging platform. Separation can be a good thing.

If we can get STEEM in the news, we can get it over $5 each.

Everyone should use this Media email list (3000+ contacts)
https://steemit.com/steem/@marsresident/how-you-can-help-get-steem-in-the-news-simply-using-your-email

And send them this:

And this:
https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/steem/

What I'd really like to see is a platform that allows custom views for each user.

it will come. patience!

This is really great information @cryptoctopus - it immediately affects how I navigate and how I will see k to contribute - thank you for posting. STEEM On all !!

Great post!! Personally I think having Steemit.com as the "catch all" platform is a good idea. When all of these are released and working. I see Steemit becoming the desktop client that people will go to and Zappl, Busy as mobile apps. Each will find their own niche.
It's almost like Facebook launching back in the day with Instagram and Whatsapp alongside. If they did it that way you bet they would consolidate all the data feeds.
The key thing to keep separate is branding and marketing. These platforms will eventually create their own following and personas and it will be important to appeal to each.

I sincerely hope you as a high stake whale can follow this issue up for the betterment of community.

Follow & reSteem!
Wait email confirmation...
Thank @cryptoctopus!!!

It will be interesting what the future hold on the STEEMIT Blockchain... so many idea are coming and being created. Let's Go MAKE IT HAPPEN!

Can you help me guys to get steem or upvotes :(

Your upvote counts I am sure about it
So I will follow you and upvote and comment on your hard work and dedication
Best Regards

I definitely think having separate bulletin boards / socials on the Esteem block chain should have their own theme and hence only display the content either curated on their individual sites, or bits and pieces from both the rest of the block chain and it's own. Also ensuring content displayed is the content posted on the respective sites makes moderation easier and allows for multiple forums/socials with different rules.

Same here, i have also a question in my mind on how this things gonna work it out.. By the way im only a newbie, on my way in browsing this community.. This is a challenge for me.. Thanks everyone..

It's amazing how you're able to get so many
votes in such a short amount of time... wow
@pocketechange

Thank you for posts such as these. I am a newbie around here, and really trying to figure out how to get myself started around here and involved with the community as much as possible.
Followed and resteemed your post. Any tips you can share with me to help me get a better understanding on what content is appreciated by the community ? Thanks

I would suggest joining steemit.chat and start connecting with people, maybe start a project. Keep posting good content, see what could be helpful to others, etc.

Good post! I currently use eSteem for much of my browsing and I am really looking forward to exploiting more functionality as the products mature.

Since steemit is more of a blog site, I struggle with whether or not It is appropriate to post twitter type content. So I try to mix it up with small cocktail type posts along with more meaningful, deliberate posts intended to contemplate thought.

Am I wrong?

Thanks a lot for interesting article. I am trying to convince more people to run away from FB and come here but many of them are scared because they think Steemit is a scam. I will keep trying for sure, but it needs some general change in mind set of 'traditional' FB users.
Please do not forget to help us to save Abongphen Highland Forest. Thank you plenty.

Hopefully more people will embrace chainbb later on

what is chainbb?

It is like a steemit alternative where you can post and interract just like steemit, here is a link for you to check it out- https://beta.chainbb.com

i really cannot wait for all of these innovations!

Good job buddy.

I have some thing for you in my blog. Check it now
