THE INEVITABLE BUSINESS MONSTER: KILL IT! - MY BUSINESS JOURNEY (Issue #5)

A monster is something extraordinarily large and scaring. Once in contact with a perceived monster, naturally, the human reaction is to recoil and follow another pathway. In the business journey, there is this inevitable monster. You cannot maneuver it, you cannot suppress it either; you just have to kill it before you are able to progress on the path of business success. That monster is FEAR!

An unknown writer mentioned that “The best way to gain self-confidence is to do what you are afraid to do”

Most people struggle naturally with the feeling of fear. It’s only a selected few who do not really know what it means to be afraid. One major reason for fear is the feeling of not wanting to say or do what would anger others simply because we do not know what would anger them. Another reason may be that we are too self-conscious so that we refrain from what would bring us to the fore. However, boldness is a virtue that must be noticed to be taken seriously, thus you must learn to act courageously.

If fear has appeared to be your companion all your life, then now is the time to tear it up.

The big question then is, HOW?

Identify what has been your major fear as well as the cause then learn to face it. For example most people fear to start a new project or stand before a crowd and address it. Others may be scared of standing before an authority figure or just approaching their love interest. After identifying your fear, look for ways to FACE IT. You can join a group that intends to start a project. You may sign up on humanitarian services that require you meeting new people and addressing them. You may have an opportunity to address a small group of people, rather than reject it take the challenge. A good preparation will go a long way to ensure you that you do well. Remember, the best way to gain self-confidence is to do what you are afraid to do.

Another way to overcome fear is to have a mentor or join a support group that can help you to build self-confidence. A life coach can play a role in your life that you can never exhaust being grateful. Search for one! However, what all these personalities or groups can do is to inspire confidence, it is you, yes you that must be determined to break free from the threshold of fear.

IN SUMMARY I SAY…

Crossing the bridge from fear to boldness requires courage on your path. Why? Because courage is not in the absence of fear, it is in the presence of fear but the will to go on. Boldness always comes from doing the same thing over and over again. Therefore, overcome your fear by doing what you are afraid to do over and over again.
