Success has many different forms and no two people are the same. However, if we analyze individuals who’ve reached great levels of accomplishment, we can easily identify some common traits/skills, that positively contributed towards that attainment. Some skills are more important than others and some will produce better results over time.

Here are the Top 10 skills that will forever pay off:

PUBLIC SPEAKING
No matter who you are, what your circumstances are, what your background is; there will always be some situation where you need to speak up, present your ideas and discuss them in public (whether it’s on school, on your job, at an event, at a doctor’s appointment…).

The more confident, natural, articulate and captivating you are when speaking in public, the better. Audiences love hearing people that can tell a story, that are certain, assertive and tactful.

BE HONEST WITH YOURSELF
This is actually harder than it sounds, because most times we get so entrenched in our own things that we forget to step out and analyze them in a pragmatic way.

If we’re not honest with ourselves, how come we expect others to be honest with us? It takes a great deal of self-consciousness, examination and humbleness to be honest with ourselves, but it totally pays off. If we want to change something, get different results and evolve, we frequently need start with ourselves; that’s how important it is to master this skill.

DEVELOP CONFIDENCE & POSITIVE THINKING
Confidence and positive thinking are half of the recipe for success. When people are focused on their goals and trust the process of taking action and progressing, they keep pushing until they get it. If they fail to achieve it, they quickly adapt and start pursuing the next big thing.

Positive thinking, motivation and confidence are all connected and turning them into to daily habits are one of the most powerful weapons anyone can have (not only when pursuing success, but in life).

ACTIVELY LISTEN TO OTHERS
Not really listening to others equals missing a lot of opportunities. Opportunities to be useful, to provide value, to make deals, among others. People usually tell you what they want and what they need (even if they don’t say it out loud, their body language says it for them).

Everybody wants to be heard, understood and feel like they matter. Take advantage of it, start listening and paying genuine attention to other people. You’ll realize that you’ll enjoy conversations way more and that people will like you better.

MANAGE YOUR TIME EFFECTIVELY
Unfortunately, our time is limited which means we can’t tackle every single task and be everywhere at the same time.

Prioritization is key to a more focused and productive life. We need to define exactly what we want and cut the non-essential so that we fulfill our intentions.

Organization and prioritization will help us work smarter, not harder.

STOP WHINING
Whining is a negative, time-wasting practice that will get you nowhere.

When you constantly complain to other people, you end up contaminating them with your adverse attitude and potentially be labeled as a cranky person (and trust me, nobody likes to be around people who complain all the time).

Instead of whining, try to figure how to improve things and you’ll possibly see better results.

BE IN THE PRESENT MOMENT
Being in the present means you’re not overthinking/ anxious about the future, nor roaming about stuff from the past. Mastering this is can be a true blessing, as it allows you to calm down, focus your attention and enjoy things.

BE CONSISTENT
Consistency is a highly-regarded trait because it conveys a sense of trust.

A person who is consistent around a certain topic, is someone that will most likely deliver good results on that. Let’s say people recognize you for being a dedicated professional; if you’re consistent on this people will never hesitate in recommending you, because they know that you are a synonym of professionalism.

REST
Your ability to think, learn, create and make good decisions comes from one of your most precious assets, your brain. Respect your body and refrain from frequently taking it to the limit. To perform at your best level, you need to rest and your body needs to regenerate itself. No one can pull it, by constantly being on the edge.

TREAT OTHERS THE SAME WAY YOU’D LIKE TO BE TREATED
If you forget about all the other skills, make sure to remember this one.

This is the most important skill anyone can have. If you have no respect for others, it doesn’t matter how much money you’ve made, how much power or fame you have…if you fail to treat others well, you’re still failing as a human being.
