Boulder Sunday
This boulder is bigger than
a pickup truck. Location is Skilak
lake, right by the dirt road to one
of the boat launches.
The trees are bending in it's presents.
Photo taken with a Nikon D7500
back in August 2018
I climbed up the little hill, there was
also mushrooms up here.
Then climbed up the backside of
this boulder and was surprised!
A survey marker, this will be linked
with the Steemit world map.
Notice how it looks like the
rock is growing over the words!

A boulder is a rock that is too huge to lift
and take home by yourself without aid.
Dictionary says a detached & rounded
or worn rock, especially a large one.
Must use your own photographs
and some words describing where the
boulder is and what kind of camera.
Make a post, keep it clean and throw
the boulder photo and link here.

Wow you found a land survey marker on that thing! Land Survey Markers are used in landsurveys to run an elevation to any jobsite in the area! Funny that they used a boulder to set it! You can look it up and see the exact feet above sealevel that point sits! It's also tied to state plane coordinates!
#rockhound is the tag for #rockhounds! Manually curated by @rockhounds / @bitfiend! Share your rocks!

Perhaps several miles away from this boulder
they have been working a lot of the main
and only road onto the peninsula. They been
working on just about every road this year.
Otherwise, this rock is out in the boonies! much @rockhounds! I wonder if I will cross

Want to have your post on the map too?
That is cool, I remember you mentioning the survey marker, but I was just to tired to climb back up and look, I finally get to see it. That rock has been there for a little bit, 1964, I bet that survey team had the time of their life getting to explore and map and mark the area. I wonder if it was marked before or after the big quake? If before did it move and did mother nature get thrown in jail, and fined 250 dollars? inquiring minds and all that hoopla.
I'd almost forgotten about this one. Does
make me wonder if it has moved slightly
from quake settling or roadside erosion.
Maybe survey was done after the quake, as it
would still have a lot of snow there possibly
on good friday back in 64.Thank you very much ❤ @bashadow! :-)
I remember that one surveyor we spoke to said that he prefered the snow for surveying verse all the mosquitos, but I am not sure he would have chosen winter when it meant camping out because you could not survey for a day back then go home and go back to survey more. It must have been something to be in Alaska during the early years with minimum roads.
That is a huge rock! I am going to go back through my photos. I bet I have some boulders in some of the photos that I took while hiking in the UP.
I was surprised to see it as we were headed to
the lake and had to backup and check it out lol
I really love your sunset swan boulders!
Thank you for looking through your photos
and entering it! :-)Thank you so much ❤ @nat-expressions!
Cool discovery at the top of the boulder!!!
Indeed, was not expecting that, just wanted
to stand on the top lol
entering your way southern boulders! Thank you so much ❤ @snowyknight for
Impressive boulder! It's cool that it even has it's own marker.
Here's my post for #bouldersunday. Thank you for creating this fun # !https://steemit.com/bouldersunday/@scottshots/yippee-it-s-bouldersunday
You are most welcome, interesting how this
tag came about lol
Your first boulder, the moonlight one sure took
off and flew almost out of the water!
Like your son in this fantastic boulder photograph,
he looks really happy to fly across them!
Thank you so much for entering! :-)Thank you very much ❤ @scottshots!
Haha! Yup, I was glad to see the first boulder shot take off like that. Happy to enter!
That is a very cool boulder! How is the survery marker applied to the rock? I have never seen that before!
Skull RockHere is mine...https://steemit.com/bouldersunday/@melinda010100/boulder-sunday-challenge-40085a97edd0f
So is yours!! Love those different shaped
boulders and shadows too :-)
I'm not sure how they are inserted into
rocks, but I figure they make a drill hole
and set them in, maybe it's concret stuff
that is over some of the letters.
Thank you for entering your awesome
boulders! Have a good day & night!Thank you very much ❤ @melinda010100!
This skull rock would be good for
#halloweenrocknight LOL
Great shots, the ripple effect totally works on this one! Resteemed!

Almost looks like eyes and a nose on the
smaller middle boulder :-)
Best of luck in the contest and thank you
very much for entering the boulder challenge!
Have a great boulder day!Thank you so much ❤ @keithboone!

Marking the marker on the map lol
Thank you so much for your awesome
infrared boulder entry! That is really cool
looking! I do wonder what your boulders
would look like with some 3D glasses?
For some reason that came to mind :-)
3d glasses use red and blue to make a stereovision effect. Not the same as my photos so they wouldnt do any good.
Ah no problem glad i found a weekly boulder tag.
haha! howdy there shasta! Rockin Steemians! lol. There's a bunch of rock heads on here ain't there? It's alot of fun and that rock you shot is one big rock! wow those trees look like twigs but I don't know how big they are but still I can tell the boulder is really big and that ripple effect is super cool.
Great job shasta!
LOL well they were not real big and not
real small, somewhat tall, perhaps about
5 to 7 inch diameters on the larger ones.
I might have to measure them ;-)
Oh I just love those ripples on some
photographs, happy you do also!
Thank you @janton!
howdy again shasta! that was an amazing photo so you are pretty talented!
The survey says, that as an ex-Land Surveyor, I find it awesome that you found the survey point!
Double and even triple WOW!
''how is the survey marker attached
to the boulder?'' Low and behold
a surveyor!! :-) Inquiring minds
want to know, I do also lol @melinda010100 was asking here
Was sure surprised to see it up
there, guess that it lured me to
climb said boulder haha
