Today I am going to sharing some images of beautiful handmade wooden toys.
It is the livelihood of the lower and middle class people of West Bengal,India.
Trying to make these wooden toys by talking to the class of people involved in this livelihood I know I'm sharing them with you.
Wooden toys are made by softwood. The seasoned soft wooden logs are bought and cut into small wooden planks using wood cutting machine. Further they are cut into several smaller pieces as per the requirement using saw tool.
These wooden pieces are further shaped using filing tool. The shaped wood pieces are further attached using glue or tightly fixed in-between the gaps. Upon the basic structure the paste is applied. The paste is a mixture of sawdust and tamarind seeds that are grinded well and pressed together with water to get the required consistency.
This paste is applied on the basic structuring of the wooden structure of the toy. Adding of this paste onto the wooden toy structure Further this is allowed for drying. Once it is dried, it is sanded and fine details are made. As a final process the toys are painted carefully and allowed for drying.
