In the last few years, the number of shootings in America has increased. People are afraid to leave their homes, especially after dark. And with good reason. Every day there is a new report of someone being shot somewhere. We live in a time when every other person knows someone who’s been shot or knows someone who will soon be shot. As a country, we need to stop this madness before it gets any worse and begin working on solutions that will reduce gun violence and its toll on our communities. Every year, more than 100 Americans are killed by guns in school shootings; the numbers from 2018 are even higher than usual — so far this year, we’ve seen almost as many school shootings as days in the calendar. It’s an epidemic, but there is something you can do about it.
What’s Causing All This Gun Violence?
There are roughly 350 million firearms in the country, which is a staggering number. This poses a unique challenge for law enforcement and policy-makers. There are a lot of guns out there, and many people have them. When people own guns, it’s important to have them responsibly. However, many of these guns are not being handled responsibly. A lot of them are being stolen, trafficked, or sold illegally, which poses a threat to everyone around them. It’s hard to pinpoint one specific cause of the recent rise in gun violence. There are a lot of factors at play, including what researchers call “the path to violence.” The path to violence, according to researchers, can be broken down into three components: the propensity for violence, the precipitating event, and the decision to act. The propensity for violence is a person’s underlying tendency towards violence. The precipitating event is the reason the person chooses to act on his or her propensity for violence. The decision to act is whether or not the person follows through.
Why Is It So Hard to Stop Gun Violence?
As mentioned above, there are a lot of guns in the U.S., and they are used often. A staggering 40% of households have at least one gun, and these households own an average of 3.2 guns. The sheer number of guns in the country makes it very hard to pass laws that would control the way they are purchased or owned. For example, while the U.S. accounts for less than 5% of the global population, we own almost half of the world’s guns. There’s also the issue of culture. In many parts of the country, gun ownership is part of the culture. People have grown up around guns and have learned to handle and own them from a very young age. These are people who are unlikely to give up their guns even when faced with statistics that show how dangerous it can be to own a gun.
What Can Be Done To Reduce Gun Violence?
There are a few things that can be done to reduce gun violence. One of the most important things to do is to improve mental health resources and expand the criteria for who can receive treatment. There are also things that law enforcement and policy-makers can do. They can strengthen gun laws, increase mental health screening for firearm purchases, and enforce the laws that are already in place. We can also work to change society’s relationship with guns. We can teach children that guns are dangerous and that they should leave them alone. We can also talk to our friends and families about responsible gun ownership.
Conclusion
There’s no denying that the gun violence in America is out of control. It’s an epidemic that is killing thousands of people every year and affecting millions more. There are many factors that have contributed to this rise in violence, and it will take a lot of work to bring it back under control. However, it can be done. All it takes are the right policies and a little bit of effort from everyone. We need to strengthen our current gun laws, improve mental health resources, work to change society’s relationship with guns, and most importantly, we need to be honest with each other. Only then can we end the gun violence in America and begin to heal as a country.
Actually if you really want to be honest, only the areas of the United States that have the most gun control are full of crime.
And as for these mass shootings I have covered this entire situation in-depth multiple times and we are seeing not only a mental health issue. We are also seeing a subculture.
Guns are not the problem.
The fact that you would write a post talking about this entire thing, rather than the fact that China has produced synthetic mind-altering substances and has completely flooded the United States with these causing the greatest health crisis and largest loss of life for the youth in the history of mankind....
However for some reason you think that the number of shootings in America has increased it actually hasn't.
However crime as a whole in the United States is so much less than across the globe.
In fact more rural areas are so highly armed that criminals remain in fear of committing crimes because they know they're going to get blasted.
Here in Portland Oregon the massive amount of Chinese synthetic drugs being peddled by Mexican cartels and then the local gangs has caused massive amounts of gun violence gun battles shootings and murders.
However stabbings and murders with other things other than firearms has skyrocketed even higher than shootings and gun battles.
Everything that you wrote about America shows that you have no idea what you're talking about..
In the American South if you were rude or disrespectful to another person they could take offense and murder you therefore society got exceptionally polite and that tradition exists all the way to this day.
We absolutely do not have a gun problem we absolutely have a lack of policing enforcement and a lack of morals.
Thanks for the insightful reply! Definitly lack of policies is one of the main reason among others. The issue of mass shooting coming up almost every year, which is uncommon in other places. I think people should feel safe, while going to concert, clubs, and parades. If you will always have the feeling that a shooting might occur, how a person will feel free in the US?.The scenario might become similar to the countries are affected by terrorists and others things. The issue can be solved if each of us to work together to resolve the whatever the issue is, to keep America safe and prosperous.
How is violence uncommon in this world?
In China where there are no guns people use knives and other tools and weapons to commit Mass violence and atrocities.
In fact actually this violence is more commonplace in the world.
And statistically if we look at it these mass shootings actually are so uncommonly rare.
That and the fact that so many people in the United States carry guns and have forms of protection.
In fact in Virginia a couple of months ago some lady witnessed a man walking up towards a crowd with an AR-15 and she shot him preventing the entire massacre.
Here in my local area we had a local mall that had a gunman try a massive shooting at. One father with his wife and children just threatened the shooter with the presentation of his firearm that was legally carried and the criminal gunman immediately committed suicide.
Even active shooter training says that you need to stop the killing by immediately confronting the suspect.
Sounds like you are completely ignorant of facts. There is no policy or law that will stop this however the community shooting back and making sure that immediate retaliation for this behavior is served up to these murderous thugs.
And if you really wanted to end the majority of gun violence you would legalize drugs because the far majority of this violence is from the drug trade.
That is if you actually studied this issue instead of just talking about it....
Only thing that should be illegal is commoditized medicine.
27 people died today from alcohol related driving accident and 95% of them were not drunk. 275 people died today from a pharmaceutical overdose but check this out: 1,300 people died today from tobacco related diseases.
No mention of that. Anywhere. Ever.
And I don't know anyone scared to leave their house.
Thanksfor the reply and giving some more ideas. In my view, people who are dying from tobacco, they are choosing it for themselves. However, about comoditized medicine, I will research about it, thanks for that info. In my view, gun violance creates fear among people who want to go to concert, parade, clubs, and public gathering. Even though I can aslo have gun with me to feel powerful, you never know how powerful gun the mass shooter has. From where you might get shot? It is unpredictable and make going out there unsafe. I think we as individual should work each other and understand well to work on a solution to avoid the heinous situations like kids are being mass shot in schools and even parks are being targeted now.
You're welcome. While you're buying into propaganda, look up those tobacco related deaths I mentioned; a staggering 8,000,000 (eight million) people die per year and you'll discover that nearly half of them don't smoke. So that shoots (no pun) your "they are choosing that for themselves" theory down. But media won't report that.
Also, you said:
False—My wife is sitting across from me as I write this, neither of us know someone who's been shot.
The fear is absolutely real, I agree with you. We can thank you, them, Fox noose and everyone else for not doing something like scaring everyone into stopping smoking or big pharma or drunk drivers. Philip Morris, Kaiser Permanente, Jack Daniels etcetera won't stand for it. Considering we're one of the last countries with gun rights, I'm not surprised. Imagine if everyone was armed in Ukraine.
I have a nice collection of guns, they've not one time killed somebody. They can't—fact. They're incapable of pulling their own trigger.
Thanks for hearing me out and please don't take this personally. As much as I respect your freedom of speech and understand we're within our humanly rights to differ in opinion, I feel obligated to say what I think when I read anti-firearm material like you've posted.
Cheers.
The Hivebuzz proposal already got important support from the community. However, it lost its funding a few days ago when the HBD stabilizer proposal rose above it.
May we ask you to support it so our team can continue its work?
You can do it on Peakd, Ecency, or using HiveSigner.
