Stock Photography and Blockchain Finally Fit Together

You don’t need to work in the media or the marketing industry to understand the immense value that visual content brings to the mass distribution. Each day, probably hundreds of photos are displayed in front of us - on social media, on various online or printed ads, on street banners, brochures, flyers and in magazines. Most of this visual content is taken from the stock photography industry; agencies that operate as distributors have the role of curating, sorting and licensing millions of photos (that depict people, objects or places) to all sorts of businesses or users. Stock photography is not used only for marketing, advertising or media, but also for artistic projects and works.

However, this industry is not in a perfect balance; since its inception, in the early 1920s, the stock photography market has changed considerably. Today, artists cannot license their photo directly to customers, but must use these platforms (or agencies) that charge them huge amounts of money. For example, did you know that photographers can get as little as 15% of the price from the content they produce (the industry average is placed between 15-25%)? Known as royalties, these payments represent the compensation offered by one party, that licenses or franchises the right over a work, to another party (so that asset can be used without any issues): Adobe Stock offers a royalty that can reach as high as 35%, while royalties presented by Getty Images or Shutterstock cannot go above the 30% threshold.

But in the end, it’s not only about money! Photographers want to regain control of their photos, to be able to offer them differently (not only for expensive subscriptions or credit acquisitions), to be better represented in this market and to regain the trust and the transparency related to these transactions.

Discover a whole new different approach to stock photography marketplace, with the use of the blockchain technologies

WEMARK
An innovative platform that operates as a community of talented photographers, regaining control of this market. What are the main advantages of becoming part of Wemark?

  • 85% royalties! That’s almost three times what most mainstream platform offer. To guarantee and regulate payments, smart contracts are used.
  • All transactions are completely transparent, due to the blockchain. Payments are made fast; licenses and photos are all recorded on the immutable database (through the public blockchain)
  • Forget the middlemen! Photographers can set correct prices for the content they upload and always know how their photos are used and licensed.

How does it work
As a photographer, you can already join Wemark and enjoy all the benefits we just mentioned. To be a part of this platform and create your own portfolio, just follow these easy steps:

  1. Use your email address and a safe password to sign up to your account at Wemark
  2. After that, prepare your photos for upload! If you upload images before the 1st of May, you will receive 100% lifetime royalties (only valid for the the first 500 photos added to your account).
  3. According to actual regulations, you will also have to upload a copy of your identification documents. You can choose from a national ID, a passport or a driver’s license
  4. When all these phases are completed, you only have to send them for further checking. Wemark will verify the information/content you uploaded and will send a notification via email once everything is all set.

Sort:

Very strong for the concept!
Great use of distributed ledger technology as there is a need for this for digital content
Token metrics and caps are sound and viable
Looks bery pomising

Good luck with the project!

Visual content plays a huge role in any blog, website or news channels. That is, we can directly estimate that the role of photography in the compilation of successful articles is very great. Good photos are a great addition to the text. Without a good photograph, the tacts will be "dry" and less interesting to perception.

"A good photogallery is a continuation of the text - like a samurai's sword is the continuation of his hand!"

Wemark .... this rightfully can be called one of the best services for photos about which I read. Firstly - there are only licensed photos from the authors. Secondly, it is not expensive - you can get all the photos at democratic prices. And this is indispensable for many bloggers or journalists. (I know because it is indirectly connected with this profession).
It is also worthwhile to remove the fact that the authors of the photographs themselves receive many opportunities to realize their potential and an incentive to develop. They are rewarded for their efforts.

The project is based on a block chain. And this tells us that it is open and safe. It has its own tokens (which you will probably be able to acquire in the near future.) By purchasing tokens, you invest in the future of the project, and the project in my opinion is promising). Also, the block chain is the complete security of the transactions being performed.

Personally, I see great potential in this project. Soon he will take the leading position in his field. I will reconnect everyone to visit their site and see all the benefits. I'm sure you will be pleasantly surprised by the possibilities.

Thank you @danizaharie this is an excellent project!

The royalty payouts are way beyond getty or shutterstock. 85% is quite a decent payout. Particularly if it is directly credited your wallet (as in common for blockchain based services). This is some good stuff that could give many a small timers the boost they need.
Thanks for the update man.

i love good photos

I think photographers should be the one to control the price of their work. It just feel so unfair when the hard work and effort is being compensated too low than what it should be.

This platform will draw more photographers. Only if they are able to keep their status high . Nice Innovation

hey i would like to better my skilks as aPhotographer so any info you can share i would aprecate it an im following you

Yah i want to support because i am also a photographer and this platfrom will help us .thanks for the post :)

This is something I am going to try right now! Started uploading photos already. I am very interested in this project as I also sell the photos on other stocks - where I get as "much" as 0,15 $ for my best photos (???) . Searching for any better alternatives and hoping for brighter future for myself and for all other photographers who spend their time, money and put a lot of work and creativity to create and share best quality visual content for all... Looking forward for more information about how it will grow and If it will be working sucesfully for all. Thanks for the post and informations!

I really like the idea of this! I pride myself in the photos I take and would love to make even a small amount of money from them. Can you link the "actual regulations" about uploading identification documents? That is the only thing that sounds scammy about this. I think it would have improved the post if you had hyperlinked the regulations.

Good morning friend
Thanks you my post

wow very nice post. This platform will draw more photographers. Only if they are able to keep their status high .

Sometimes I also see all the photos in my area so beautiful but boring
Good post brother

That's great News for everyone around the corner. Wemark is a wonderful platform to acknowledge the talent and efforts of the photographers. 85% is a great deal to buy. The use of blockchian technology will lessen the perseverance of payments as it's the most fast and cost effective.
It's a great informative blog @danizahari, thank you.

good to see this project work. all this year photographer hardly get any recognition or well rewarded from their work. this project could support them continue with their passion .

photography is a very labrious work and the revenue genrate is very small

Nice project . excellent blockchain. Thank you for sharing us.

In theory it sounds like an awesome but with already a large number of established stock libraries microstock sites Its up against a lot of competition. I know many that have invested countless hours in stock photography and barely making a few dollars here and there. Those sourcing stock images always want to pay the bare minimum and even getting it for free if they legally can. The microstock model destroyed it for many earning living through stock photography and unless Wemark can give a better deal and something unique to the buyers, not just the photographers, gain a decent share of the already established markets and actually do a good job selling photographers images then could just be another passing phase like many in the past.

In modern world, visual content plays a huge role in any blog, website or news channels. This platform is going to use smart contracts and guarantee 85% royalty to photographers. They can set correct prices for the content uploaded and always know how their photos are used and licensed as there will be no middlemen.
